Breaking the habit is hardest at the beginning, try to think of that when you recognise cravings, and over time your subconscious won't respond to boredom/idle hands with hunger

1- Get off your ass and do something productive if you're bored.

2- Just don't mindlessly eat to begin with.

This shit isn't rocket science.

Start fasting and get a hobby.
I fast from 5:30pm to 11:50am every day no issue. Home, bored? I'm up 6am and eating every other hour. It's hell.

"oh go for a walk, do this and that" you cant go for a walk 5 days in a row. I've no creative urges and games have become boring. Cycling was fun for a few years but flats, expensive clothing, keeping the bike clean and getting sick if I do go biking has ruined that.

I think your problem is hat you try to replace the urge with other things and always fail. The trick would be is to change the way you think and psychologically reduce and finally give up the urge completely.
Fasting would be good for the sole purpose of being used to feeling perpetually hungry and maybe try to associate an empty stomach with a calm sate of mind.

Get one of those bowls for spastic pets that makes them slow down and pick the food out. Then stop being a wide load fatty.

Try swapping to stuff that's good for you like veggie chips or nuts if you don't have an allergy? Especially if the habit is deeply instilled and will take some time to break.

I had the same problem and usually a little bowl of something crunchy as a snack helped curb boredom eating. Doesn't stop it cold, but it kinda cuts back when you're not going out to satiate that bored craving.

-Maybe cheese? A medium sized chunk of mozzarella is usually a pretty good nosh + it's a little more substantial than eating just fruit or veggies alone.

I curbed my craving for soda with carbonated water. I imagine that could also work for boredom eating.
That definitely helps. Avoid diet soda. The sweeteners fuck with your insulin and end up making you hungrier, specifically for carbs, leading to a lot of people consuming more carbs/sugar than they do when just drinking normal soda.

I'm a fan of seltzer myself (Bubly, Waterloo, Aha, etc), the grapefruit bubly is great, so is the lime. It's just carbonated water with a drop of essential oils, so not much in them to mess with your physiology

Don't bother with hobbies and shit, it is easy to eat and do hobbies at the same time if you're committed to being fat. Take if from a former fat person, I bet a lot of the above posters have never been fat a day in their life.

The solution is to have absolutely no snacks in the house. People will bitch at you every time they come to visit but fuck them, they can be fat on their own time. The only foods that you should be able to eat with zero preparation are fruits and vegetables and nuts. That way you can satisfy your hunger cravings without eating unhealthily. If you are trying to drop weight, also cut your portion sizes by a third. You will find you get used to eating less very quickly.

Just make sure you are eating substantial healthy meals when you do eat. I lost a lot of weight on a crash diet when I was young but it came with some health problems I didn't anticipate.

Oh I'm 100% on board with it. I've worked alternating shifts and I literally can't eat 4 hours before bed lest I suffer the whole next day. I eat dinner early and am done digesting in time to stretch or whatever in the time slot you'd otherwise spend cooking. I'm fine feeling hungry and it's not what I'm trying to sate. It's literally just boredom. At this point I have to force myself to do things just to avoid ending up eating. I do buy snacks for the weekend and I honestly don't know why, I can end up trashing half the bag when I realize I've no desire for it. Ironically I'd rather snack on like.. semi-healthy cereal or fruit juices.

It's like I'm literally putting myself in a situation I've no natural inclination to be in. I got a week off now and I've no fucking plans, but since it's technically workdays, I've no urge to snack. It's all cultural despite being a culture I've not grown up with; snacking on the weekends.

How about replacing shitsnacks with other stuff?
I've heard some people cut the habit by eating dried fruit. Maybe you could spend your weekends baking stuff too?

Chew on some spearmint gum. It has to be spearmint, since it's an appetite suppressant. If that doesn't work, get caught up in something that requires your undivided attention. Investing time in productive writing or some kind of housework can distance you from impulse eating.

Ear things with little to no calories out of boredom. Problem solved.
It really is about not having the shit in your house. What sucks is when you live with people who will buy it. I lost a lot of weight when I was busy with university and working out and living on campus. Even before I moved on campus, I was commuting and would get home at 10, pass out, then wake up at 4:30 and do it all over again. There was no time to eat, except on campus when it all required purchasing, so I ate less.
But I did this and started drinking zero calorie soda and water with drink powder (I needed SOMETHING with flavor) until I pissed my brains out to the point where my urethra started spasming and caused stress or urge incontinence. Part of it is I will just down it immediately. I CANNOT sip. If I yearn for something, I will drink the whole container immediately.
Just a light warning.
I've known people who would eat dry oatmeal or pasta. Not my thing, but harmless and time consuming.

Sunflower seeds are a popular option but they've got a ton of salt and you can consume a significant number of calories over time.

Really, it's probably best to not replace eating with another oral habit.
These are absolutely not calorie free...

That's the brain looking for dopamine. Drugs, food, pussy, whatever. Go do something you like doing besides eating.
This is the problem. But the issue is I used to game a lot when I was bored but it doesn't hit the same. But looking at it from a dopamine angle is the solution.

Even during hobbies or activities, it occurs.
I limited my fridge to things that require some small effort to cook and remove most of my snacks
Also start eating more low calorie options like pickled vegetables

Biggest thing that stops me from eating is super strong pickles
Buy a jar of the little pickles and add alot of freeze dryed dill

Snaps me out of it quickly "1-3" but it's still an enjoyable experience

Any tips and/or what do y'all do to curb it?
Have you ever tried a fast? If you tell yourself you’re going to be extremely hungry for a very long time and just accept that you will feel that way, you will be less inclined to just satisfy any immediate desire. Just go hungry for a while. Like a month. It’s not that complicated.
