Difficult to do so long as they need American weapons, which is why they’re investing more in their own defense industries. They have to step carefully to avoid a full meltdown of relations while they transition away from any dependence on the US for any defense.

Europe essentially is an American vassal state. We made it that way post-World War II and again in the 90s after the fall of the USSR. Occasionally France will mutter under their breath for us to fuck off but Europe is compliant with America 98% of the time.
What would be the benefit of turning the relationship openly hostile? Trump endorsing some populist shitheads for EU elections or cutting support to Ukraine is not ideal, but still much preferable to the alternative of the U.S. outright siding with Russia (which, despite many hot takes to that effect, has not actually occurred).
Not going to happen. Trump has three years left in his term, and if the midterms go the way it seems right now, he's not going to have as much power going forward. He's also easy to manipulate by stroking his ego and giving him shiny things. For Europe it's much easier to tell him how big and beautiful his ballroom is going to be, give him a gold medal or two and promise to buy $57 trillion worth of stuff from the US. Then do nothing for the next three years.
The British (or another) Royal Family can sure spare a crown or two and gift it to Trump. The Korean crown was well received. Trump needs something serious for his crown wearing ceremony in the ballroom / throne room.
