From what I played of Beyond Citadel, it wasn’t too bad, especially with the gunplay being surprisingly enjoyable.

Then again though, I do like anime artstyles, so it really depends on your tastes.

There's something about the style of Beyond Citadel that makes me feel ill on top of the guro stuff that is already sickening. I think those games are the textbook definition of YMMV.

Cross posting from the Doomworld thread:

Because of consolefags (mainly Switch owners).

of course the furfag mainly plays on Switch

The actual Blood fanbase doesn't seem very happy about this release, and they seem keem to sticking to using ports like nBlood or the NotBlood fork.
The only people defending the re-re-release of Fresh Supply are literally employees of the company doing it and retards on tranny infested Doom World. ID/Bethesda and countless others dropped free remasters and updates to their games that people who already owned them got for free because they aren't complete jews and knew that (as stated in above posts) if console owners are a significant chunk of profits and couldn't own it before, who gives a fuck puff puff pass to the PC players, the positive PR alone is worth the 0$ cost.

The Blood source code thing is interesting because (and people can correct me here) it's never been released because Atari are mouth-breathing mongoloid niggers desperately holding onto one of the few things of any value, and like the retarded boomers/jews they are, think that by releasing the source code they'd somehow be jewing themselves out of meagre long-term profits.

That's why ID never released Doom/Quake's code and the games never got modded or supported and forgotten about, right?

The SS2 delisting is one of the scuzziest fucking things I have ever seen and exists basically as a way to hide the fact they slapped some free mods onto a 25 year old game and are trying to sell it again for $40. Absolutely shameless shit. And another example of not giving the update to previous owners. Buy it again, goyim!

Playing through some Blood mods and it's wild how good they are. I cannot recommend Frenchmeat enough. Tried 500ml and it was pretty good but the one level was wretched and should not have been included.

Maybe because of how annoying it is to mod Blood you end up with higher quality because whoever is doing it is hyper-invested in it.

It's because of the Build engine itself, the editors available for it filter out a lot of people because of how archaic they are in comparison to editors for Doom and Quake, it's both a blessing and a curse, since the Build community straight up refuses to make a more modern editor.

Interesting, I always figured it was dirt simple because there were a billion Duke3D maps out there yet Blood was left twisting in the wind.

Related: I just started What Lies Beneath and this is another level. I thought Death Wish and Frenchmeat were wild, this is something else. The sheer level of bending the Build engine to the author's will is another thing to behold. It isn't as tight as DW is but it's doing something different and I'm blown away by it. Absolutely astonished.

Total Chaos is the new indie FPS darling. It was made by Trigger Happy Interactive who did Turbo Overkill and is being distributed by Apogee. It was a GZDoom mod updated in Unity. Under The Mayo from Youtube helped contribute to the combat and crafting system with his autist adderall-fueled analyses on games like DOOM Eternal. It's good. It's just a little too deep for filthy casuals when you get spergs like Mayo contributing to it.

Decided to pick up Captain Wayne - Vacation Desperation today and I've been enjoying it.

The game is built on Gzdoom but plays rather quickly and takes some design queues from Build engine games. The sprite work and animations are well done and the enemy roster isn't just a reskinned Duke/Doom roster. The level design is consistently good and the key hunting aspect is alleviated by maps wrapping back into themselves and repopulating enemies and resources in a way that keeps the action constant without relying on gimmicky monster closets. Forward progression is usually very visible and the maps are linear enough to keep them from feeling like mazes. There's a haunted castle map after a boss fight that's particularly well done and almost feels like playing an Escher painting. Captain Wayne as a character might as well be a Duke Nukem stand-in, Dirty Harry voice and all. Old Duke, mind you, not nu-Duke. There are hand-drawn cutscenes throughout the game that are really charming. Absolutely worth the $9 I paid for it. I haven't noticed any pozz and the humor mostly lands.

Not a bad OST either.

I considered picking this up as well. It reminds me a lot of Condemned. I never played the original mod, but seeing videos of it, the game got quite a facelift. It's an absolute tonal shift from Turbo Overkill. Maybe once I whittle down this backlog a little.

Blood Refreshed Supply released yesterday with a less than stellar reception

They already did the cope post saying how "special" it is to warrant paying a higher price for the same game with slight improvements.
They are getting grilled in the replies

For once it's appreciated seeing this company get humbled after so much praise being showered at them non stop. Should help a little.
Also here's a video of the remastered cutscenes they were advertising

Scummy beyond belief. I just finally got around to trying nBlood and it blows my mind how shitty FS/ReFS is in comparison to a free fucking mod. JewTari/NightDive deserve every ounce of hate over this. It would have been bad but tolerable if previous cucks owners like myself (who bought it in the hopes of showing that maybe they should actually make a new game lol, lmao) got a free upgrade but this is bullshit. I've said it before but between this and System Shock 2 NightDive has basically evaporated all their good will almost instantly.

To make shit worse, the Fresh Supply owner discount only lasted until the game launch, and now Fresh Supply has been de-listed. Refreshed Supply has it's own issues like getting rid of the static skyboxes from FS and audio not registering from behind the player. I am probably going to end up refunding it while I'm still under the playtime. I didn't mind paying $10 for what I assumed would be a "definitive" version that used the ACTUAL source code, not another Kex engine game frankensteined with bits and pieces of source code. There's also even less options in the settings compared to Fresh Supply.

NBlood/BloodGDX are still superior ways to play Blood and you can easily find the One Whole Unit edition on archives.

EDIT: I'm late and didn't see the Steam review screenshots. Point still stands. I believe Nightdive has burned up any good faith I had after this and Outlaws. At least it wasn't de-listed when the "remaster" came out.

This makes me sad because I really enjoyed the System Shock 1 remake and I wouldn't have minded more System Shock games from whichever dev team at nightdive was responsible, but clearly they're no longer involved with Nightdive.

Does anyone have recommendations for neo retro shooters that are supposed to be similar to either of the original System Shock games? I've heard of Sonar Shock but apparently it has its performance issues.

I've been keeping an eye on RetroSpace (not to be confused with the other RetroSpace) though it's not due until next year. Hoping they release a demo.

eta: there's obviously the other misused IP gremlin in the room but that's not neo retro anything

Thanks.
A bit of gripe with retro fps, you have no idea how much I've come to loathe seeing this on a steam page.

At this point I have to wonder if the allure of Steam shekels is actively preventing the goys from cooking up some amazing obscure shooter just for the sake of doing it.

I've played a bit of it. It plays very VERY similarly to System Shock 1, for better or for worse. It didn't grab me and it's doubtful I'll go back to it any time soon unless I'm insanely bored at some point but there were no performance issues to speak of that I can recall.
