Here in Australia, the son of a fairly famous football player was accused and found guilty of rape. Throughout the whole case and until shortly after the jury gave the verdict, the name of the rapist was suppressed by court order *cough* Tom Silvagni *cough*, because of the rapist’s “mental health” and because famous surname.
The thing that grinds my gears though is that because it’s a rape case and especially one that involves a famous surname, in every comment section you see comments like “I hope they got the verdict right” etc. Like there wasn’t a police investigation, trial and verdict decided by 12 people.
It really angers me that rape cases still aren’t believed by men (and even some women) even after the guilty verdict.
He got six years and 2 months by the way.
