I wouldn't stress about getting the taxonomy of Nick's mental condition correct too much because what's more important than the label is the symptoms and behavior. I do think that Nick intellectually knows what people consider to be right and wrong, but Nick does not believe he needs to be bound by the rules that govern ordinary people, most likely because he sees himself as above rules, but also probably because he does not "feel" a sense of morality like how people tend to describe sociopaths. Nick's morals stem entirely from self-interest, and often change based on what he believes benefits him personally, as opposed to any ideological, religious, ethical, or political consistency.

I am not sure that it is very useful to assign Nick clinical terms like 'narcissist' or 'BPD' when those meanings are laced with meanings and specificity that are lost on most people. The intrusion of 'therapy speaks into the modern social vernacular has been worse for society who does not appreciate it. Pop-psych has been net negative.

Use of simpler words like 'proud', 'liar', and 'selfish' need to make a comeback.

I think that it is entirely possibly for a sociopath to develop a sense of right and wrong. I sometimes wonder if I am a sociopath because I feel like I react different to some situations than normies. I could just be autistic.
