Ugh madeinthemoment/emmainthemoment, who was my go-to for listening to fiber arts drama while doing fiber arts myself a while back, announced that she’s a they/them a while back and I think I mentioned it in this thread. Speaking of knit it's, Hunter Hammerson has released a beautiful new pattern. I absolutely adore her work, her patterns are formatted in such a fantastic way and they're easy to follow. Absolutely top-notch work.

But her personal opinions and the way she expresses them, man.

Long screenshot ahead because my phone is a fag. This is the email I got today. The thing is, I agree with most of her political stances. I agree that donating to the food bank or other actions feel good and getting offline and touching grass instead of doomscrolling is a great idea.

But I fucking loathe the tone of this email. I fucking hate being lectured, especially on issues I agree with. I also fucking loathe how these assholes - on both sides of politics - take glee in pissing off the 50% of people who don't agree with their politics.

No matter where a person stands on politics or religion or anything remotely devisive, when they start acting like this my oppositional defience disorder kicks in and I stop supporting them financially as much as possible.

Fuck her. I hope all of her patterns end up on PinDiy and any other sites like it.

EVERY small business is sending out Fuck Ice emails. It’s such an obvious good will grift. I get it, no one with two brain cells to rub together supports Ice. But unless you're putting money where your emails are fuck off

I don't think we can say either way. We can't go strictly by voting rolls, because over a third of the country doesn't vote. The best we can do is by opinion polls, which does show that a majority doesn't approve of this and that but polls aren't perfect either.

Everyone likes to think they're right and other people are wrong, so everyone likes to claim they're the majority on any subject at all. In the end it doesn't even matter. It is what it is, whatever "it" is.

I dunno, drifting into philosophy there which is not my strong suit. I agree that it's a dumb statement.

I also hate comments like "unsubscribing from my emails makes this community safer" because how exactly does it do that? I hate cottage cheese. But unless I can somehow buy every dairy farm and processing plants and somehow prevent people from making cottage cheese at home and prevent them from opening their own dairy or processing plant, my opinion makes absolutely no difference.

I think they have this idea that not only will someone unsubscribe, they’ll rage quit the online knitting community altogether, so no one will have to interact with them. People with different opinions are seen as harmful toxic people who want to create drama and upset, leaving trails of destruction, and the only solution is to block them.

She writes as if she’s high up in the subculture and can dictate the correct opinions to hold, and while I’m sure she’s a decent knitter, I haven’t encountered her before now.
 
I bought some beautiful cashmere yarn on a whim, and while I'm looking for a pattern online, I've come across so many of the Fuck Ice, Fuck DJT slogans, I've become discouraged and wonder why I even bother doing any knitting/crochet.

I just want to make something with my beautiful cashmere, is that too much to ask?

And if anyone has some non-political pattern sites, could you please share?

How much cashmere? What kind of pattern are you looking for? What's the weight?

I find you have better luck avoiding the lunatics on Ravelry if you use the advanced search to narrow down your options. You're less likely to find fuck ice on a sweater or a shawl, because those slogans are reactions in the moment - a shawl or a sweater takes a lot longer than a hat or mittens and so it's not worth it to put it on there. For the most part.

You can also block patterns/people on there, so if you do see one, you can block them and never see it again. Won't help you now though.

Or try searching via Google for the type of pattern you have in mind, rather than a pattern site like Ravelry or Instagram or Etsy.

I have six balls of 50 grams each, so fingering, I suppose.

I didn't really have anything in mind when I bought it, but I'm thinking an easy scarf or shawl. I bought it because I thought it was so pretty of a color. Dammit, I gotta stop doing that.

Given she is also doing the old patterns arent good enough but people want them so sibscribe to mt whatever and i open up sales 1-2 days a year fomo bullshit? She wont care.

I truly loathe that trend.
 
Seeing how political yarn crafts are becoming is just irritating, like I understand people wanting to express their opinions through their art, but forcing that opinion down the throats of every other fucker in the community ain’t gonna go down well. I’m just glad that my favourite yarn brand hasn’t gone down the politi-sperging route (yet, anyway) and I can buy from them without pressure.

That’s the other thing they always screech about - the yarn’s too expensive. Which it is tbh, but it’s the difference in yardage between small sizes and huge ones. It must cost a fortune to make a sweater that big
