As someone who has written his own characters, I think Alex actually had a decent idea to work with concerning Ayano he screwed up due to pure autism.

He started with the Yandere trope as a base. Not a bad start given the premise. He added Senpai was the only person Ayano ever felt love for, and because she's a yandere, she views anyone else who might feel the same as competition that needs to be eliminated because she's incapable of feeling love for others due to otherwise being a sociopath who has to fake acting normal most of the time when she's really just an amoral sociopath.

He could have stopped there, but he added her own mother was cut from the same cloth and thus it was very likely hereditary. Okay, laying it on a bit thick there, but not bad by itself.

Had he stopped there and let the player fill in the rest of the blanks, he would have left her just enough of a blank slate to let people who wanted to step into her shoes redefine her to anything between "utter bloodthirsty lunatic" to "only kills or maims when necessary" or anything in between within the limits of the gameplay, which, given this is a sandbox game in theory, should have been what he did.

But he just kept going, penciling in every blank when he really shouldn't have and casually making so many of his random ideas canon to the point she's no longer a blank slate for the player, she's a predetermined cipher the player just moves around without any agency over her aside from kill methods.

My inner character designer still finds that enraging because it wasn't a bad idea he had, he just ran it into the ground and refuses to stop.

Urgh, realitiscally speaking it doesn't matter why she wants senpai, it's a videogame and whatever but this is SO bad it actively makes the player dislike Ayano. If you wanted her to be blank state like you say then you shouldn't have given her a reason at all.

No it doesn't, she is not moved by love, jealousy or possessiveness, she kills "just because". You even say yourself if it's not for love then it not yandere. Senpai is also virtually non existent, you could switch him for a pillow with a face and the game could still go on normally.

tl;dr: Alex can't write so he tried to make her a blank state. Couldn't justify killing so made her "empty until senpai", people hated garbage reason. Invented family bloodline and shit but isn't sure anymore. Asks the fans what to do next.

there actually is a mental disorder called alexithymia, which alters emotion and i believe it's somewhere on the autism spectrum. from what i know, it greatly alters your perception of emotions, of your own and those of others (you can't truly express your feelings and you don't understand others). with therapy (the earlier the better), this can change. a protagonist like this wouldn't be too bad and would almost be interesting but alex isn't smart enough for that

This game is forever going to be in idea mode where he will always democratically make polls for everyone to vote on a new direction for the game(or he just streams a new game to steal ideas from and make a video announcing that he will now be stealing mechanics) and every poll is taking a new snapshot of his entire unstable demographic of children suddenly changing the game's direction.

This video's shittiness reminds me of the "emails" video that made me go like "I wonder if this whiny asshole has an ED page listing other instances of him being a whiny asshole" which led me to find this thread. Also I joined 300+ pages later, hi.
He just sounds so unprofessional and whiny about things that a respectable independent game developer wouldn't think about, not even once. People complaining about story and characters? Who cares? Isn't this your creation? Shouldn't you be mature enough to know which complaints are based solely on preference and which are constructive? Or so I would've thought if I didn't know better by now.
