Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

in that moment of hate he embodies the desire and hunger for power so completely that the "divine prank" happens and he is finally gifted with his triforce piece and it saves him from death.
Zelda fucks up so hard at the end of OoT without knowing it; she not only dooms Hyrule when Ganondorf inevitably returns, but she also causes him to gain the Triforce of Power in the past anyways. All by trying to do the right thing and give Link is childhood back. The Triforce splits (you can see Link clearly has it on his hand during the end of OoT), goes to the other people destined to hold it, and lays dormant in Ganondorf until he's at death's door. What a fucking prank, indeed,

Yea Time Travel really fucks alot of things, the moment Zelda sent his ass to before the events of OoT it really fucked it all up, the Universe simply couldn't answer why a person, Link, has the Triforce of Courage, when the entire thing should be in the Sacred Realm, whole.

The Universe decided on the funniest possible answer, at least Link never did any sort of "fuck the world forever" with Time Travel he's all about small closed loops and altering things in them, such as Majora's Mask, since the world ends in 3 days anyways if he doesn't, he he's always an outside force new to Termina so he 's basically free to do so since nothing he does by time traveling contridicts his temporal position.

Not a fan of Grezzo Zelda, the awkward pairing of BOTW with top/down Zelda, and having to suffer BOTW's awful U/I in that environment. Post-2017 Zelda menus are so sterile and cumbersome. I long for TP's circular and snappy item menu.
Did you try it after the update that lets you set favourite echoes? It makes the game so much better and I don't understand why it wasn't in there from the start. Bumps it up from maybe a 6/10 to a 7.5/10 imo.

What do we think, manchildbros?
OoT does have my favorite final battle theme. I should run some rando tonight.
See now that shit is just sad. The Hero Of Time unknowingly left an entire timeline of people to perish without him then became a spooky skeleton after losing Navi.
I think TP implies (or outright says) that the skeleton Link who teaches you techniques was pissed off about saving the world then not being recognized for it, or bummed about not having a student. Something like that. If that's the case then he just straight up stays home out of spite lol.

There's a reason why this song/imagery is in the game, it ain't just memberberries.... I covered this earlier in the thread, but Link is very much a spirit to be put to rest, what he did for others in Majora must now be done for him. Unlike nuZelda inserting meaningless callbacks to other games and giving Link different kinds of hats to wear... Hero's Shade is a deliberate and interesting continuation of the themes featured in MM.

I think that Lego has fallen into the trap that they believe themselves to be an old fashioned toy that kids are no longer interested in and so they primarily try to appeal to adults since that's more profitable and a more stable market.
I don't think it's that. With plummeting birth-rates and people with kids naturally having less money to spend, they decided that they'll make more money by making sets for manchildren with no kids of their own and lots of disposable income. Add brand recognition and Apple levels of cultist mentality and you're ready to rake in the mad dollars. The worst thing is that it's working really well for them, too. Other companies aren't really filling that gap, either. I like Bluebrixx for example, but they also make sets for almost purely adults.

As for the set itself: Lego Zelda is actually a pretty cool idea, but I genuinely don't see the appeal of these diorama sets. And anyone who pays that much for this set needs to be left behind, we cannot help them.

I really wish that the final battle was fought not with Zelda and Link in TP, but Link and Midna, the Fused Shadow got beaten entirely off screen was lame, as it was this super powerful thing you've been collecting all game and it did fucking nothing.

as it was this super powerful thing you've been collecting all game and it did fucking nothing.
It makes sense though. The Fused Shadow was something made by human hands... yet the Triforce was made by the Goddesses. The Interloper cutscene mid-game even shows the Fused Shadow being defeated by the Light Spirits. I can understand wanting to fight with Midna for the whole thing (even though you get a taste of it against Dark Beast Ganon), but Midna already defeated her final boss in Zant. Ganondorf is an echo of the past, and Link+Zelda mopping up that generational mess is a part of the fulfilment of OoT Link's wishes.

There is a Giga-Chad take I prescribe to which states that Midna decided to take on Ganondorf by herself not merely to protect Link and Zelda, but because she actually wanted to fight him. Midna intended to put the absolute power of her tribe up against the power of the Goddesses in order to see if she (as monarch) could contend with the Light World. She fought the ultimate power of the Light World (the triforce), and died in the process... Which means that her people would always be beholden to the Light World and at their mercy should another force like Ganondorf arise.

It's a very nuanced take on the lore, and even paints Zelda as somewhat naive for thinking the mirror of twilight was something gifted to the Hylians so that they could connect with the twili. It wasn't, the entire reason the mirror was created was so the Interlopers could be banished to the underworld, and then Hyrule spent untold centuries using the twilight realm as their own personal garbage dump for all the worst criminals imaginable. Midna KNOWS this better than anyone as the ruler of the Twili. She destroys the mirror of twilight not only to protect her people from the Light World, but also to keep the Light World from using her world as a degenerate trash heap. It shows how incredibly mature Midna really is, as she's putting the safety of her people above her own desire to fuck Link forever.

(Health Potion Café) Dude is working through many Zelda games like this.

This really fucks with the OG intention of where OoT was supposed to be in the timeline.

Miyamoto and Aounuma originally wanted OoT to be a direct prequel to ALttP, but due to the ending it left it ambiguous. Wind Waker eventually made the timeline split definitive and led to the mess of a timeline we have now.

Also, Majora's Mask is a hilarious answer. Especially when you consider that Termina may not be even real depending on the interpretation of events.

Also: Just 100% every Zelda game now. Twilight Princess is probably number 1, either that or Majora's Mask.

I'm working my way through Majora's Mask, and my tism makes me feel bad about not saving Romani every time I reset...

and fuck gyorg I hate gyorg

The one Zelda game I'd want to see above all others is the closing chapter of OoT Link's story. It'll never be done because Nintendo never wants to make another T-rated Zelda which would effect their shekel-potential, but clearly other fans besides myself have this desire (i.e. major link's youtube series). Modern Ninty would fuck it up of course, but it's a dream project for me right up there with a bait-n-switch Zelda game where you think you're playing as Link but it's revealed to be a grown up Colin wearing TP Link's old threads and wielding Rusl's ordon sword.

It's hard to top the pure adventure of OoT, but MM has so much character and does so many interesting things it's hard not to put it in the top 5.

The official Zelda timeline is stupid. It was better when it was mostly disconnected games with a handful of direct sequels.

Are there any good (2D) Zelda-like games?
This is something I've been searching for for years... It's fucking bizarre how popular Zelda is and yet how little Zelda-likes there are.

It's not out yet, but Isle of Reveries is exactly what you're looking for.
Play that demo (1-2 hours) and tell me it isn't a perfect spiritual successor to the GBC Oracle Zeldas. It is the only game I've found in my years long search for a Zelda-like that satisfies me.

My runner up Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, which is fully completed and released. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2870350/Pipistrello_and_the_Cursed_Yoyo/
It's kinda ugly, but man is it really good. There's less of a focus on dungeons than I'd like, but what is there is really great. Even though it's kinda short, its really creative with the different scenarios presented in each main area, and the new yoyo powerups you get in each one are super creative and fun to use. There's also a lot of really great challenge rooms for optional stuff that test your ability to use each ability in tandem with each other.

Other than those, there really aren't many that scratch the exact itch. If you want a couple of games that get close there's Tunic and Death's Door. There's Crosscode as well, which has awesome Zelda-like dungeons, but it was a little too anime and RPG for me to finish. Master Key I've heard good things about as well, but I couldn't really get into.

I feel like I've heard this exact idea talked about in various places for years and years.

Every time I do play through, I get to him on the third day, die, have to go back in time, don't touch the game for two weeks, and then come back and finish it. Having the Chateau Romani helps, but then you have to piss away a day waiting to buy it.
