Charles has long been a Muslimophile. I remember some serious handwringing years ago that he secretly wanted to convert. It was nonsensical given all he's ever wanted to do was be king, the monarch is the head of the Church of England and he'd be turfed in an instant. Didn't stop some people from worrying...

Charles seems to be inspired by the esoteric writings of René Guénon. His main theory is that every religion comes from a primordial truth that have been corrupted by time, and for strange reason he wrote that Islam is the most primitive one, so it's the most real. He converted to Islam in the 1910's and lived in Egypt until his death.
