The reason dispatch is popular is because it actually does something uniquely in that its earnest. Yes there is snark and there are marvelisms here and there, but the core underlying story, characters and themes are earnest and take themselves relatively seriously instead of hidding beneath 20 layers of meta irony jokes.i haven't seen a more blatantly astroturfed game
There are silly moments and serious moments and the serious moments are given time and weight to rest.
There are some death scenes in dispatch that have more emotional weight on their own than last 10 marvel movies + shows put toogether because they have both setup and the payoff is allowed to quietly sit.
The story itself is relatively cookie cutter, nemesis, downfall, revenge, found family, blah blah blah, but its done competently and earnestly with a relatively likable cast of memorable characters and a good soundtrack.
Dispatch isn't a masterpiece, but in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king, and in the land of irony, earnesty is king.
