Hilarious how in the pre-stream right now, Phil is saying, "As you know, I tried going solo for about a week with my own AdSense after leaving Machinima."
DSP slimy as ever in blatantly lying and leaving out that he went for a managed partnership with another MCN after Machinima fired his ass.
And him now bemoaning the gaming industry as "unprofessional" after just yesterday blaring how he's gonna take down Atlus in court is oh so rich.

Why would AtlusUSA know if AtlusJapan copyrighted Phil's videos on purpose? Didn't Atlus even release a statement that if USA/European branch did something stupid they'd drop the western branches immediately? So even if this was AtlusUSA flagging his videos (On command of Japan branch), why would they start to suddenly solo around and risk everything just because GoutSydePhil is angry and why would some random guy, who's job is propably answering questions regarding their games, know about what some other guys inside the Atlus are doing?

Exactly, Phil just went on a spastic emailing rage and got one halfhearted answer from some temp amd declared himself absolved.

I think this vindicates me in trying to manage my expectations about Phil's demise based on the Atlus situation. I mean at this stage, when he has evidence that what he did didn't go against the guidelines Atlus themselves put out and his own network saying they're willing to bat for him, I'd say him losing his partnership over this is probably a stretch at this point.

If anything, DSP being a cockroach and surviving just prolongs his long, drawn out, slow decline that's always such a pleasure to watch. I mean literally as I'm typing this he just answered a question about whether he stood up to shit and replied joking about how he stood up and proceeded to spin round and round as he shat. That's no way for a 35 year old man to behave and still there's no feasible way he can leave Youtube/Twitch behind and make a career for himself somewhere else. It's all a matter of sitting back and enjoying the ride

That was like a year ago or something.
People just love drama and gossip, life isn't a series of sudden twists and dramatic endings, it's a slog and Phil hardly registers.

The ride is so much fun. Phil's got such poor decision-making skills and no verbal filter so the tipping point could be anything at any time. The smart money was on Phil getting fired from Machinima for something content-related but he ended up getting the boot because of his attitude to them directly. Trying to predict that any one thing will be the end is wasted effort.

I wouldn't go as far as to say he was in the right, but the strike may well be removed. However, he is taking a really laissez faire policy with this situation now that he thinks he's in the clear. If it were my business, I would be in continuous contact with folks at Atlus until I had visual confirmation that the strike was being removed. Sitting back and thinking he's in the clear may be more dangerous than he realizes; if somehow that strike sticks for too long, Curse may still act on it.

It's fair to say that since Atlus is this serious about striking channels, Phil is not going to win this appeal and Curse will therefore drop him.

I think the best way to say it is DSP won't go out with a bang but a whimper. No one big event is going to happen that ends Phil he has said he is in this until bankruptcy and it is one of the few statements I think he is being truthful. Look at Spoony he has not put out a video in months and is still getting $500+ a month on Patreon. Phil will go down kicking and screaming but it will not be from some giant event but the steady decline he has been on for years. DSP's Youtube career is a long, slow, painful, and unavoidable demise and as you said we should enjoy the ride.

I think video games are an artistic medium that deserves respect, honestly, and part of that respect is that the owners and creators are the ones who decide what's acceptable use of their work.

I mean personally I think in a lot of cases that streaming a game boils down to free advertising because most of the joy comes from actually playing them, and modding games is ultimately just contributing to their overall value and appeal. But it's not the players who get to decide that, it's whoever made it in the first place, and for story heavy games I could absolutely see "Watch someone else play the entire game start to finish" not being something they want to give away freely.

This pretty much sums up why Let's Plays have been so successful, they're great ways for people to see how a game actually plays and get reactions (and in some cases quite a bit of entertainment) from a host as they experience the game. I've watched quite a few "An Evening With Sips" a Youtuber I follow and wound up buying the game he began to do a series on. I can then compare my own playthrough to his and it encourages people to buy the game.

Games are very different from films with commentary. A film is 2 and a half hours absolute tops with only the odd musical sneaking through at higher amounts. Even "short" games are 6+ hours of singleplayer gameplay with then nigh infinite replay value for Multiplayer. More games (such as Sandbox games like Transport Sims, city builders and Minecraft) are literally infinite.

Meanwhile I spent 92,000 hours in Paint:

Playing games for a living doesn't make a parasite, playing games as professional making money via e-sports isn't a parasite but effectively begging your bills away, demanding a gracious living wage from fans and being handing free shit whilst being ungrateful the whole time certainly equals a parasite.
I have no probs with the LP scene but I'm looking forward to its collapse and can't imagine anyone other than pewdiepie having stashed anything for retirement.

I hate the begging. I don't care if it's for money or attention (like, subscribe, comment, share.)

As far as making money off it goes I have seen a particular handful of guys that used to do LPs and gameplay streams go beyond that and start up a series of live streams that's semimonthly and lasts about 8 hours each time. They make like $6K each time and actually pay a bunch of people do do art, music, and they sit down discuss mechanics and stuff (they're making and playing sessions of a tabletop RPG in Tabletop Simulator.) They also develop two other actual games using Minecraft as a base and have tons of unique stuff (not just shitty minigames or whatever.) They want to change from Minecraft to a dedicated engine, so again willingness to grow. This is the right way to go. Diversify and grow. I believe Machinima was pushing him to do this when they were asking him what he wanted to do and he was incredulous that they would ask what else he wanted to do but gameplay on YouTube. I think they were pushing him to diversify and grow because it would be in both their best interests. He'd become more stable and make more money, and so would they. But nope. He was not interested.
