Gawker died because they were mismanaged into the ground and encouraged to be a pack of ambulance chasing vultures cashing in on violating people's privacy. It's a nasty cocktail unethical journalism and tabloid sensationalism that were the primary nails in the coffin.
Yes, they pissed off powerful people and got their asses handed to them. Yes, the case against them was funded by enemies they'd made. But this is not some shadowy billionaire destroying a private publication. They broke the law, and they were sued for it. That is the consequence of breaking the law.

Fuck Gawker, fuck this bullshit "free press violation" handwringing, and fuck the dishonest twats who miss it because it suited their agenda.
When the exact same shit inevitably happens to some other trashy rag on the other side like Breitbart, they'll be dancing in the streets.

If you care about the integrity of the press, you don't get to stop just because the person being unethical agrees with you.

Peter Thiel was doing anything but hiding in the shadows. He was tag-teaming with the Hulkster and openly curb stomping them while telling them why he was doing it.

If they had showed the slightest trace of contrition or even, perhaps, just slightly less arrogant shittiness, they probably wouldn't have had a jury that wanted to see them all burn and die, after having weeks of their life jerked away to watch shitbags like A.J. Daulerio openly say it'd be okay to post kiddy porn so long as the rape victim wasn't four years old. He did this in front of the jury, mind you.

If you are on trial for your existence in front of a jury of people who have been taken out of their lives to deal with your bullshit, you don't talk down to them like they're a bunch of rubes and bumpkins and then on top of that be legally in the wrong. They will find against you for whatever damages you caused, but when punitive damages are in play? Then it's going to be "and a million zillion dollars you scumbags."

While I still think the case has some troubling free speech implications, I have no sympathy for the defendants at all. It's a state trial court decision that won't be appealed, though, so I'm not terribly worried about its precedential value.

You'd think John would have some sympathy for a guy who was outed for no reason at all just because some dickhead thought it would be funny, with no public interest in it whatsoever.

Nick Denton has filed for personal bankruptcy. I would be amazed if he were able to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars and yet unable to put up the supersedeas bond for the Gawker appeal. In fact, Nick Denton almost certainly has a net worth in the negative millions at this point. Worse, he has it because of an intentional tort non-dischargeable in bankruptcy.

Hulk Hogan OWNS Nick Denton at this point.

If you have any information that Denton actually has a positive net worth at this point, there's a U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York that would love to hear this, because he'd be guilty of pretty massive bankruptcy fraud that could send him to prison.

I haven't played since early Heavenward, but when I stopped the game was basically, dps, tank who switches to dps half the time and healers who are either dpsing or playing with cards 75% of the time.

So that's my answer, the only hard part is finding a large enough group of people without catching any floor tanking mongoloids.
