Russia didn't just say 'fuck it.' Putin isn't suicidal. He genuinely believed he could win, decisively and quickly. He believed wrong.

Whether the Chinese decision makers fancy their chances or not I can't say for certain. What I can say for certain is every ally and advantage we deny them changes the calculus in their estimation against their odds and thus reduces the likelihood of invasion.

There is actually a number of missiles that will topple a regime, especially if they are nuclear tipped, but lI think we can agree to that number will not be used on Iran.
"There is no reasonable number of missiles that will topple a regime that has the support of its people" is more accurate.

However, that's not what is going on here. The strikes are not to topple the regime. They are to paralyze the regime while the population topples it. There have been protests going on for other a month. the country is running out of water due to mismangement and greed.

So this ins't just "bomb tehran till morale improves". There is an actual opposition, they might actually be able to pull off their own regime change, and this is simply supporting that.

The US has military bases in every country that Iran has attacked. The US has explicitly stated that the goal of the strikes is regime change so it's an existential conflict for the Iranian leadership, hence the attacks.

I don't anticipate that people will rush to dig through the rubble to count casualties while the bombs are still dropping. Also the regime likely isn't keen on sharing that information. It will take time for those reports to trickle in.
