Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

John is meant to be the showcase for Dumas' NP and a statement on Heroism in the modern world. But mostly the showcase.
Don't see the statement. He just fights against a mythic being after nearly dying. Except he's a wagie rather than a main character.

She's somehow the most boring character in a cast of 30 characters, I'd rather have the sexy policewoman as a main character.

Narita is following the Nasu school of making unimportant shit a big deal. I like John, he's a good little guy.

She is the main self insert, so she can't have too much of a personality. But that girl is making Yumes lose their fucking minds. Same with Sigma, he's the male self insert.

Sigma is more shota bait for the fujoshits. The feminine oriented version of a 1000 year old vampire girl so it's "technically" safe while also having him be dark and brooding.

I can't see any male safe insert in the show. Usually it's a normal guy getting dropped into the situation with zero context, either getting a superpower or always having a power that only in this case has any effect.

It's not even a cool sequence, generic ass jumping on and between building while """evading""" multiple shiny_sword.png while he throws Excalibur shots like weak ass fireballs. It even just cuts to the end of Saber crashing to the church for yet more memberberries mystery box.
It looked unfinished, like it was missing colors in a lot of places. SAO had better animation 13 years ago, wtf to happened to A1 pictures?

Frieren, why people claim it's a masterpiece, it's simply mid.
It's a cute and chill anime, the writing is good, the worldbuilding is bearable (very rare for a fantasy anime nowadays) and the subtext about accepting death, time passing by and nostalgia is universal enough to be understood by everyone. For that reason alone, it's one of the best things released in the last 5 years, which is not so much a good thing for Frieren than a shame for the rest of japanese animation.

For me, Nausicaa is retarded and boring. It was so bad I still didn't watched most of Ghibli's movies.

I wasn't a big fan of Hellsing. Cool concept with a shitty execution and awful generic sounding elevator music for its background music
Evangelion
I never got the appeal in that one. Everyone was over analyzing the religious symbolism for years then one of the creators basically said "we just put it in there because we though it would look cool lmao" and they still continued over analyzing it

Evangelion is like the perfect anime for the "I'm 12 and this is deep" crowd.
anno fessed up to being a hack ages and ago they're still coping

Cowboy Bebop
Yeah, that's about the best I would give for myself. Cowboy Bebop is alright, but I don't get enough out of it that I understand the people who think it's 10/10 their favorite anime ever.
AoT was really up there too but I think mostly people eventually realized that was shit
I was never interested in trying to watch/read Attack on Titan because I just felt like the titans were boring monsters. Yeah, that's literally it. But even as someone who wasn't interested in it, even I somehow felt something like second-hand disappointment at seeing the pages from the ending when people where melting down over it. It's kind of like Game of Thrones, it's no wonder it mostly faded from public consciousness. There's just no coming back from something this embarrassing.

I know it has been milked by ufotable, but it is fate, you'd think they'd put more effort into it, especially since they delayed for a long time.
They need more time to add More Artoria.

I’m just gonna paraphrase something I saw in the Attack On Titan thread: AOT is like Sonic the Hedgehog in that 1. Things fall apart the minute the story strays from the most basic premise it was built on, and 2. Whoever did the music went harder than what the project needs/deserves, and we’re better off as a result.
