The Pentagon burned through $5.6 billion in munitions during the first two days of strikes on Iran, according to WaPo, citing U.S. officials.

➡️ The Trump administration is preparing to request a supplemental defense budget worth tens of billions of dollars to sustain the campaign.

➡️ Meanwhile, the U.S. military is moving a THAAD missile defense system from South Korea to the Middle East and redirecting Patriot interceptors from the Indo-Pacific and other regions to strengthen defenses against potential Iranian drone and missile attacks.

➡️ Officials say the move of the THAAD system is precautionary rather than due to an immediate shortage.

Reminder that the US's annual National Defense budget is in the ballpark of between $800B and $900B depending on how spicy we want to be.

Remember that when someone inevitably brings up the gorillions we spent raping Iran into submission so far, they're talking about less than 0.7% of our annual military spending.

Greece has deployed a Patriot battery to Bulgaria in order to defend from a potential threat from Iranian missiles and drones. Additionally, two F16s deployed in northern Greece will be limited to cross border operations to protect their Bulgarian allies in case of aerial threats. The issue with Venezuelan crude is the refinement and only few countries are equipped and capable of refining and making it usable, it is much more complicated and energy consuming when comparing to refining oil from the US or gulf which most countries are used to.
Like not even Venezuelan refineries are equipped for it and actually prefer the "cleaner" options and import them from outside. IIRC only the US and and China are able to refine it and asian shitholes only find use for it in blending it with more expensive and "cleaner" oil to make it more economical.

Most of that is earmarked for upkeep, soldiers pay and other missions. How much is 5 billion in relation to the budget for discretionary spending?

Iran is a huge country, but here is something that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else. In cities like Zanjan there temperature is between -6 C and -1 C and is currently snowing.

Not having proper energy infrastructure in such an environment would be a problem.
