Do the people in his chat ever discuss videogames? Cause all I see in that chatlog were old movies and how speedrunning is a waste of time.

They only do when Phil plays, mainly just by telling him what to do since playing a game and learning how to do it yourself wastes time for the next new release.

Most chats are all over the place on a wide range of subjects...oftentimes having nothing to do with the game being played or the streamer playing it. TB's, for instance, is a very chill atmosphere where even philosophy can be a topic discussed.
DSP and his mods, with the exception of Ginosaji who seems the most likely to abandon ship, have set up an Orwellian doctrine where you must agree with whatever Phil says even if it contradicts statements he just made.
Very soon DSP may have to consider tossing a little money the mods' way to keep them around, because their job is only going to get harder the more detractors Phil produces with his attitude.

Give it some time. He lost his particular cook just a few weeks ago, the one who cared about not eating fattening stuff because she was a thin, young woman. Now that Phil is free from that tyranny (and that he's confirmed for a lazy shut-in who barely goes outside), you'll see him balloon in lard, slowly but surely.

I have to disagree with your perspective.

DSP is constantly on. I mean it's a bullshit job, but he has to dump obscene amount of time on this crappy job. He constantly has to tweet, maintain an online presence, etc...with zero privacy, for a laughably low amount of money.

As per calling all the shots, he is constantly having to worry about what unhinged losers on the internet think about him. He can't tell his dwindling fan base to just fuck off. He can't pull a Spooney.

Honestly, his lifestyle seems like pure hell to me. It's everything bad about YouTube celebrity with minimum benefit. For someone with a college degree, at his age, he is making nothing. He has no 401K. He barely has health insurance. He has nothing but debt to his name.

I would feel bad for him except this is the fucking mess he has created and he refuses to acknowledge it's not feasible long term or admit he is miserable.

let's not forget all the other road blocks he's set up for himself contributing to his misery. He's completely isolated himself, probably moreso than Leanna even at this point, so now with her gone he's literally home alone all day playing video games for strangers. the man must have no social life---at all. his instagram consist primarily of food, his tv set, and selfies. he has zero pictures with other human beings. the man must be completely, utterly, alone.

his debt is completely self-inflicted. he spent every penny he had and a whole lot more when his career was going well, and now he's forced to grind just to maintain it and make ends meet. even with his absolutely toxic personality, had he just made a few better decisions, his dwindling success wouldn't be nearly as detrimental to his financial future. he just needed to prepare a fat savings account, a part time job, and a smaller place, and he would be sittin' pretty and totally fine with $1k a month patreon dollary-doos.

finally, though we joke about it a lot, i really think he's headed for a health crisis over the next few years because of his diet and lifestyle. it might not be disastrous, but just think of a few years down the line when his financial and medical situation both get worse and he'll need to fork up money for daily medication. he is not financially prepared by any means for his body to turn 40, and it's hard to see how he could become prepared over the next few years.

I mean it's not really that terrible. It's just extremely lazy. Boil noodles, heat up some prepackaged meat balls, and dump on some canned sauce. The difference is that most people end up finding out canned sauce by itself tastes really bland where as Phil hasn't. Oh well, no time for that. He's got a full day of ebegging and writing pages of excuses on his forum!

Well it has not happened on Twitch yet but he did lose all his forum mods in a mutiny of sorts.
I thought if Phil as a findom as well but I didn't think it fit because he does produce content. It is shit, bottom of the barrel, lowest common denominator content but it is something. He has the verbal abuse down but until he is in Spoony territory where he has not uploaded in a few months and his Patreon is still over $500 I think it does not work...yet.

My question though is why did the forum modsduring their mutiny kick his gouty ass out of the board and hijack it given he was not it's creator though? It'd be more effective and force him to scramble to create a safespace where people can't call him out for being the selfish stupid coward he is.

Eventually, it'll get to the point where his audience will get sick of his stagnation and the patreon neetbux won't be as flush as they once were. Even if he has one health scare that's a massive blow to his revenue, he won't be able to keep up bills or food payments for that month. On top of that recurring payments for prescriptions would utterly clear out his rather unsubstantial kitty. It'll be a recurring cycle.

One I will take immense interest in watching.

It's got to be some form of narcissism, I know it's been bandied around before but when you get right down to it, Phil thinks he's fucking good at games because his ego will not let him think that he's bad at games. I wonder if he's even self aware or is he in some sort of hugbox dreamland where he wins every game of super turbo in his mind. He does these fucking mental gymnastics in order to make himself think that it's the game's fault and not his.

He always calls his haters detractors. A detractor is out to criticise or find fault but never hates or trolls. It's almost like he truly believes that he is the king and he simply has minor critics mixed in with his loyal subjects.

He's in a fucking dreamworld.

yeah, that's straight up the sort of dinner we make when, like, the baby refuses to nap and I have to work late--one-off situations where our options are canned spaghetti sauce or eating at 10pm. Phil doesn't have those sorts of real life struggles.

If DSP put out 1 playthrough a month with his level of awfulness I would probably think it was a joke but this guy constantly plays release after release live and blind. We have seen Phil's level of "acting" in Project 7 and even certain playthroughs. His Dark Souls redemption run when he is standing above the first boss and it flies up and hits him Dsp lets out a fake reaction screaming "I didn't know he could do that." He had played Dark Souls twice before, and that boss did that move in both playthroughs. Phil knew that would happen but tried to manufacture a "funny" moment and you could see right through it.

Personally I just think it is laziness. He doesn't have to be good at a game or even put effort into playing to get payed so why would he? If he is stuck too long he could just look at the chat and now people PAY him to send him tips so at this point it would cost him money to play a game well. Dsp is not witty or clever enough to think on the fly to create those famous moments of ineptitude they happen because he just doesn't give a shit.

To add on to this, that video he made after Leanna's panic attack (the on that made her finally leave his ass) tells me that his petulant combative attitude will only make things worse when his health starts giving him serious trouble. All those healthcare providers that helped Leanna, and what does he do? He shits on them and attacks them for doing their jobs as best they could. He will absolutely be the patient who doesn't take his prescribed meds, because he's too goddamn dumb and arrogant to think he needs to listen to the nurses/doctors. Right up until he ends up in the ER because he's having some massive problem his medication would've prevented. It'll be years before this drama starts to happen, but it will happen. I'd put good boy points on it.

Been saying it for a while, but his medical problems will comprehensively wreck any future he thinks his "business" money will take care of; any inheritance money his parents leave him will not grant him the gravy train lifestyle he hopes for.

As soon as he figures out a spam technique, he will use that until the game breaks him. He isn't illiterate. He can read, but he is on such a short time frame goal, he never stops and comprehends what he just read. He has to churn and burn as quickly as possible constantly. So like menus, simple cues, and obvious prompts in games are missed by him because he is just focused on progress at any cost.

It's like watching a pissed off ditch digger about to slice into an underground power line, but he doesn't notice because he can't quit unless he gets the trench dug and that is all he is focusing on.

He comes off as just...miserable to me.

The speedrun issue can be most noticed in playthroughs nowadays. Back then (let's say, 2008 to 2013) he seemed to try (emphasis on try) to play the game, just to fail miserably.
With more recent playthroughs, like say, Halo 5 (2015), he literally tried to run past enemies and speedrun the game, but failed.

missanthropes cant be choosers. you cant isolate yourself from the world and expect to be pulling ceo levels of cash.
besides, perception is key. to him, formerly living in a condo, alone, working a job his dad got him, hating it and drinking yourself stupid each night while playing games...the life he has now is paradise.
