Meanwhile kids games post 2010s actually feel more relaxed in tutorials.
Nu-Mario has an lot of handholding in their RPGs, Paper Mario points out every single thing that's new. Zelda's the odd one out, just as long as there isn't an companion around. Pokemon is obnoxious as it's always been...Up until you've crawled your way out of the tutorial area.

An lot of the third party stuff just either printed an manual or had an dedicated area for that shit. Up until recently. Because for some reason, everyone has fallen victim to the "everyone should be included bit" of the DEI campaign. It's like everybody is assuming that only retards play games, nowadays.

A friend sent me this the other day. Pretty interesting analysis focusing on the significance of numbers 3 and 4. It's one of those "Tetraforce" theories but goes way beyond that. Highly autistic, but I liked it a lot.

The amount of Midna mods will boggle the mind.
Maybe because people love the character? Like... Imp Midna is what people wants Zelda to be in the first place, less like a damsel in distress that needs to be rescued, and more like an active companion that works alongside the player and has actual personality and goals.
It does helps too that what the real Midna does after undoing her imp form is so shit people wants to forget she's even a thing and further wish for the imp to return.
Ahhh the tantalizing possibilities...
Porn artists are tourists, the reason they make so much Imp Midna porn has less to do with her design and character, its more because of the memes and the fact that she's face and center of the most popular Zelda game of the gamecube/wii era.

Quoting this classic from SSJ Ness (RIP)
Imp Midna is unironically 40 pounds of pussy and ass. She's just floating drumsticks with a smug single fang grin. That's not even artists exaggerating it, her body mass is actually 80% in her cheeks, thighs, and pot belly. She's not a pear, she's a lightbulb. They had to know exactly what the fuck they were doing. I refuse to believe otherwise. People being creepy fuckers and sexualizing the Inklings and the bird girl from Wind Waker and all that shit, sure, that's on the fans. But Midna being a forty pound pussy that grinds on top of Link's head and bosses him around is 100% on Nintendo. Her imp form was actually MORE sexualized than her true form, which is astonishing since her true form is literally a completely naked woman in harem silks with black bodypaint covering over her bits.

I unironically believe that if TP had the twilight realm, with its twili and Midna, completely replaced by Subrosia from Oracle of Seasons, with its its subrosians and Rosa as an actual companion for Link, this discussion would follow the same notes, with the only thing changing being the copypasta instead informing on why characters who keeps their face covered by a cloack are actually the hottest and prettiest for some retard reason.

Imp/Fairy Zelda as a companion would have been amazing in BoTW or a tiny version of Dragon Zelda as a companion in ToTK, I would have loved that.

Nah fuck that, Midna did the right thing and proved herself to be the queen that the Twili needed. By severing the Twilight Realm from Hyrule she made her people truly free since they were no longer relegated to merely being Hyrule's garbage pit for criminals and monsters anymore.

If you have no idea what she looks like then you have to fall for her personality instead of her body, right? It'd be like Midna, I think Imp Midna looks disgusting but I adore her personality, so I still ended up falling for her. Then it was like a Christmas present when I revealed her true form and she was also one of the most beautiful creatures I had ever seen up to that point in my young life.

I wonder what the TP sequel was like and what they had in mind before Miyamoto barged in all WE MAKKU SEQUER USE DA WII ZAPPA RINKUU SHOOTUUU!

The amount of Midna mods will boggle the mind. Hell, once something is well and truly on PC they could make a Dagoth Ur mod for the game where Dagoth Ur shows up in Ordon just to recite the meme. Ahhh the tantalizing possibilities...
"Come, mortal, interloper or hero, come. Come and look upon the Power of the Gods and Usurper King, and bring the Shadows. I have need of them. Come to the Realm of Twilight, I wait for you there, where we last met, countless ages ago."

This is why spirit tracks is kino

I mean, some people are assuredly just around for the ass... but you said the real reason at the top. She's a good character, I'd argue the best in the series. Keep in mind Midna was the culmination of 8 years of tweaking the companion formula, from Navi to Ezlo. The companion architype went from an annoying (navi)gator, to the titular character. I think she was also a way for Nintendo to bait n' switch the fans. It's hard to put yourself back in the mindset of 2006, but when TP came out everyone thought Zelda was the Twilight Princess. The trailers and promotional art allude to it, Midna calls her it, and it's not until the Arbiter's grounds cutscene that you learn the truth. She's the driving force of the plot, her development is the crux of the story, not Link's. She's a princess with her own title and kingdom. She has her own abilities and her own mcguffins to collect throughout the game. She even has her own villain to fight and kill...

She put her people first, above her boyfriend. As much as I want her to stick around, Midna makes the most difficult decision in the game. And unlike Zelda who naïvely believed the true purpose of the mirror was to bring their worlds together, Midna understood that shit was nothing but a means for undesirables to be removed from the light world.

Thus the Navi architype comes full circle, and she leaves forever, not without words, but with tears.

You bet your ass she's the best Zelda character.

I must admit, though I do think the story and characters in BOTW is better than people give it credit for, Midna is still unquestionably the best character ever made for the series, and the lack of someone like her in later installments is a bummer.
As an amnesia story, it's perfectly fine. There's some decent depth to the story if you look for it (various journals, Champions DLC). There's a reason the original champions were popular. Tears is the game with a complete shitshow of a story,

BoTW also works as an amnesia story because each memory you unlock is its own self contained scene that doesn't really need context to understand the major points. And then once you have them all together the full picture becomes clear since you can fill in the gaps yourself. Tears doesn't do this nearly as well since each scene is built upon the previous scenes complete with dramatic reveals and narrative pacing, so viewing them out of order tends to ruin the story.

Is there a new Zelda game in the works? I kinda want the new Switch 2 and a few of the games look good but it's just so damn expensive.

You sort of have to assume the Zelda team is working on something. Tears got no DLC, so they've probably been dicking around with Switch 2 hardware for awhile, besides doing what was needed for the S2 versions of Breath/Tears. My hope is there's the next big game in development, along with a smaller project by Grezzo. I believe Monolith also had a hiring thing out awhile ago for staff on a "Zelda game" Whether or not that means their own take on the franchise or that they're assisting with the next mainline game again is anyone's guess.
