The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

things like Sonarr require you to run multiple instances if you have collections in different languages, and it is much easier to just deploy a second container then mess with adding a second service with it's own settings. Plus i run two instances of qbittorrent, one with a H&R configuration and one for private seeders.
but why use proxmox for it?

>pray to god
>god sends down a lightning bolt and a free powermac g5 appears before me
what do i do with it, ive wanted one of these for like ever and now idk what to do with it

Every time I ask someone what the benefits of Proxmox are, compared to simply running virt-manager on a plain Debian or NixOS install, their heads start steaming and rotating around. I guess I shouldn’t have made them question the geas placed on them.
Clustering, high availability, and not having to install an entire desktop environment just to manage these things.

I mean it's obviously not a good server for any regular use, if you pay for power.

If you're not going to enjoy it from time to time for a bit of vintage X-Plane, modern Minecraft, etc, on appropriate Mac OS X versions, and for some deranged reason you decide to use it as a server, then it could be a good Tor relay, or perhaps a proxy to your internal network services if you're running a homelab. Assuming there's an undiscovered buffer overflow in tor, the NSA has x86-64 exploits ready to go. They probably have ARM exploits. PPC64? Maaaaybe.

I have heard good things about some lunatic Dutch man's Linux Mint-LXDE-based Debian overlay. He hosts it via some kind of dynamic DNS service. So, it is probably at least 1000% as trustworthy as Manjaro.

so funny story about powerpc, even when i was talking to security experts and black hats they would tell me there are no known ppc64 hardware vulns
nsa might have something but if your threat model isn't the surveillance state overlords, openbsd on a powermac is probably about as hardened as youre going to get

I really don't know how to get across the idea, that this is something WE NEVER needed up until this point. Then suddenly after a bunch of people started spreading around the ideas that we need ID verification, age verfication, paperless money. Now oh, yeah,we gotta save the kids lets start putting in the infrastucture that will be used for this stuff. Seriously does no one remember what things were like more than a year or two ago? I hope the people that buy this shit just kill themselves. They're niggercattle and if they got shot in the head and eaten, it shouldn't be a crime.
COVID happened and you saw how quick people stayed in their houses for weeks or months because the Government said so.
It's depressing to see how every western country is pushing for the same ID verification laws.

Has bazzite always been run by fags or is this a new addition? I checked the official X account and its filled with reddit shit.
Always has. The official mascot (because of course it has one) has multiple pride flags on it.

Just use SteamOS if you're needing a console like OS, it just works at this point, unless you have a Nvidia GPU, in which case neither distro works well because Nvidia is Nvidia. At this point i'm half decided on moving to it on my main machine.

Lol. From their github page.

I am new to Linux and when I was looking for a distro, bazzite felt like some "reddit wholesome" shit with it's "for gamers" marketing. Looks like my intuition was correct.

Half the commenters point out this is a screenshot of Bazaar (the Flatpak GUI). All Bazzite does is include it out of the box, it's unreasonable to expect a distro developer to go out of his way to change a tiny option like that.
Why is a Linux distro DELIBERATELY INCLUDING gay cancer, like Kaposi's Sarcoma or any Flatpak related tools?

Yeah but not gay. Though I'll research it more to see if it's close to what I was thinking. I was hoping for something where there's basically one container that represents every two to four years which most programs are compiled against, and if you really need fast moving software there's smaller containers for every year (or six months) that can be installed and used, but while the 2-4 year containers would be supported for 20+ years the 6-12 month containers are only supported 2-4 years or something.
>yeah but not gay
That's Guix. Guix also has all prior versions of software available through the guix-past package channel, and that might sound scary, but all you need to do to access it is add it per the instructions on the project's git page to your channels.scm file. Literally 3 lines.
Wallpapers are bloat, I mean that with utmost sincerity.
Nothing peeves me more than seeing all the posts on r/unixporn with transparent terminal windows overtop a high contrast wallpaper.

I looked them up because I was curious. I can't imagine anybody would seriously use these.

I wanted to try wayland some time back, and a friend convinced me to use hyprland. I installed it and it (without any modification) booted into an anime girl wallpaper. That, along with it supposedly being the least pozzed of the wayland WMs, told me everything I need to know about that whole "ecosystem".
I have a few ship-themed wallpapers I like to use, but on my current installation I just use pure black.
Anime wallpapers are heckin based and I'm tired of pretending they're not. Hyprland has by far the best dev backbone out of any Wayland compositor, though Niri is also looking pretty alright despite it being R*st and FOTM, so time will tell. The other options are SaarDE, GNOME, Cosmic and Sway. Gnome is self-explanatory, Sway is made and maintained by Drew DeVault, or as I like to call him, Drew Lolicon/Pedophile DeVault, and I have never heard of anyone seriously using Cosmic or anything else. River and DWL I guess?
