Shit that reminds you that you’re getting old - Re: Fwd: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Fwd: Damn young’uns

I'm still too young to know the value of the song, but old enough to appreciate it like my grandparents have from every cookout or party.

I was talking about this recently. How songs I listened to as a teenager (Story of My Life by Social D and Someday by Sugar Ray) I now understand them because I am older.

But yeah. I'm the only grandchild who actually talks to my grandparents about music they like.

I have actually been into music my grandparents listen to because of GTA: Vice City. Right now, I'm listening to Luther Vandross and Freddie Jackson.

I like Dave Matthews Band now which officially means I am old now.
Do you remember that story about how "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was originally supposed to be one song in a hit vampire musical but it never made it to Broadway because the whole show was just "Total Eclipse of the Heart" ten times with awful arrangements?

I was at work listening to Dave Matthews Band because the place likes to pretend it’s eclectic, and I realized I’ve literally never heard a Dave Matthews song besides “Ants Go Marching,” so I tried listening to the other stuff and it’s just “Ants Go.Marching” again. :stress:

Crush is my jam. Dig that violin solo.

They sound so 90s soft rock to me. And what's old people music to you? I think of stuff from the 60s and earlier.

Very mellow sounding stuff basically. Anything that used to play on top 40 contemporary channels.

Although I especially felt this way when I was a teenager and playing rock music. These days, it feels like middle aged music to me.

Watching videos like this is always incredibly bittersweet. It is a quick glimpse back to a time, a world, a society that is probably never coming back. ☹️

Some nicely dressed young ladies, with incredibly good taste in music, take a trip to McDonald's in 1988.
EDIT: Notice that there is not even a hint of vocal fry during any part of this video. You're not going crazy, most people knew how to speak relatively properly up until 5 minutes ago. You're not going crazy, your society is decaying, and you are surrounded by people who are still in denial about it or are completely checked out.

For a moment, I was almost MATI and about to defend Dave Matthews Band's honor, but then realized I was thinking of Ben Folds Five. Carry on, old hag.

Nah, man. I like Ben Folds.

Tori Amos' music got me through a lot as a teenager, and now her voice is giving out and she needs backing singers :(
Misery loves company. Have you seen this @NoReturn?

This is really sad to see. But she's been singing since the late 80s at least, right?

people you grew up watching are all passing away.

I had the same kind of realization when bands that I grew up listening to in high school are now near 60. I remember Incubus were in their prime when I was a teenager and I looked at Brandon Boyd in the last few years and was like, fuck, he's old.

Between the popular artists of your youth being old farts with one foot (or both) in the grave who will never produce new art and the popular artists of the current youth being random names you don't recognize or care about, there's the realization that some whippersnapper newer artist you're currently enjoying will produce some art that you will never experience... because they'll outlive you.

I've thought of that before. All the stuff I'll miss.

Another thing that makes me feel old.

My cousin who is younger than me by a few years has three children now. Her brother who is slightly younger also has a kid (although that happened when he was still young) and now the cousin I used to babysit is pregnant and married.

Man, I'm old.

Met up with a chick I'd matched with online and eventually realized the reason various details about her seemed familiar was because I'd also gone on a date with her mom many years ago.

I miss old tf2. So many good memories.

The update came out in 2011 and was one of the peak moments in tf2's lifespan for me. These days the poor girl is on life support and I hardly ever have the time to play it. Matchmaking has not been kind to tf2.

Dis you bust out Stacy's Mom in some way when you told her things wouldn't work? If not, surrender your man card now
