I wanted a real Star Trek Academy show and this piece of shit is what I got. Anyone wanting Enterprise back is likely gonna have... something like Academy.
Yeah, I'm not excited.

At best it'll be a preachier The West Wing (which is saying something), just with space elves, blue guys, and people with buttholes glued on their foreheads instead of Democrat boomer self-inserts .

Also President Archer will now be gender-queer.

Bakula was born to play this.

better shows have been cancelled for worse reasons, but this was cancelled because it sucks.
I'm sure there are plenty of actual bigots who hated Academy solely because it starred women and people of color, and they deserve to be called out. However, there are just as, if not more people who think the show had awful writing and characters.

I don't get why these days, a show getting bad reviews means there's some online conspiracy against it.

I wanted to like Mayweather, but he just sucked.
yeah the idea of the guy born into space travel knowing lots of little bullshit about space life should have gotten a lot more mileage

I've still never seen a single image documenting any letter-to-the-editor, op/ed, or even a tv listing saying they're running a different Trek this week to back up the claims of outrage at the time the space jerks mushed Uhura and Kirk's faces together
I suspect the demand for bigotry outstripped supply a long time ago

Well she's wrong. And fat.

I don't hate it because it has gays and nogs in it. I hate it because it's the same slop writing we've been subjected to for almost ten years: everyone is special, everyone is a victim of something, people behave like idiots and not like actual (aspiring) members of a military organization. It shits on its own source material and legacy and feeds the audience decoy memberberries in the vein of "we've skimmed memory-alpha for five minutes", Also just like all the other Kurtzman shows before it, it looks absolutely terrible, I'm really fucking sick of the set design, lighting and lens flare everywhere.

I don't give a fuck, I want to see people travel through space with cool spaceships, solve moral dilemmas, behave like professionals and yes, actually explore "strange new worlds". I don't care if some gay klingon gets roofied at the club or whatever.

The producers could also have chosen not to cast the niggiest nogs to walk the planet. It really brings me out of the show when a Jem'Hadar STARS TAWKIN LAHK DIS 'N' SHEEIT. NIGGA, WE BE OUT HEE.

I seriously think Avery Brooks was the best captain, but NuTrek makes me racist. I'm Schrodinger's racist.

Only so many hours in a day... It amuses me that we may need to start paying bigots to keep up with the demand for them with current year writers.
That's what bugs me about a lot of shows etc nowadays which do things like time travel. They have the people in the past be like insta racist. As if they were patrolling the roads for black people to oppress.

I'm not saying people couldn't be mean to each other, but the time issue is what folks forget. Most folks didn't have the time to actively oppress others. You had to get your crops in, prep food, do laundry and housework. Most racism back in the day would have been racism of convenience. (And yeah, that was also part of what made it worse for folks is the random like nature of it, which numerous studies have shown random negative consequences is pretty much one of the fast ways to break a human brain.)

They probably think videos by "right-wing grifters" (whatever that means) are the same as actual bigotry.

We already kinda have a gay Klingon everyone loves: Bortus from The Orville. His relationship with Klyden is a major part of his arc, but it isn't the only notable part about his character. He's stoic, he's a loving father, he has his own vices, and he gets along well with Kelly.

Well you... uh... you don't like Burnham, so that makes you a bigot, you bigot!

Sisko had good material to work with. Also Geordi, Guinan, Tuvok, and any other non-black character who was black on the show. Geordi went from being a junior lt. who didn't trust his own capacity enough to become chief of engineering, and while he was good at his job, he lacked confidence with women. To me, that's a good characterization. It helps that Geordi also looked and acted like an Starfleet officer. Do any of these Academy kids could run and roll to escape engineering as Geordi did several times? Even Picard, the oldest of the crew, could fight.

What they did with the fat black hologram chic was terrible. I still don't know what she's meant to be. You could program her with all emotions, even understanding them because that's in her programming, she ain't like Data in that way. What is the worst about her character is that you could see the difference on how Data acted compared to her: he was someone who KNEW what emotions were, but didn't experienced them so he couldn't act them properly. There was some sort of awkwardness about him and his interactions with others. Sam acts like a retarded zoomer. I dunno what she's supposed to "learn".

That's a case of bad acting, bad writing AND bad casting happening all at once. She's got no charisma, she's very ugly, and her motivations are annoying. The dudes at least have a chance in the Melrose Place/90210 reboot kind of production, she shouldn't be acting at all.

Bad directing, too. A good director can throw out a script, coach a mediocre actor, and get a decent result so long as the actor knows his lines.

Robert Picardo gaining 27 ruptured disks from being forced to carry Starfleet Academy makes me sad.
Picardo’s been on thin ice with me for years.

The best thing you can say about him is he’s not constantly licking the producers' asses (Frakes).

By no means is he as embarrassing as Spiner, who probably owns a bust of himself.
