Troonslop "Retro" Games / Demake games / PS1 Trannies / ULTRAKILL / Y2K trannies - Retro gaming is infected

It is common behavior for outcast/losers to not fit normie spaces and then retreat to inhabited niches and either fully change their personality or try to change the niche itself (sometimes both). This thread is an example of it - people who can't and don't belong to normie spaces are retreating to "retro gaming" niche since it is easier to be noticed is such spaces.
I think something “happened” to cause them to specifically retreat to “psx”, wether it be clinging onto some game that captivates them or was pushed by outsiders with ulterior motives because even 10 years ago you had trannies doing lainposting or obsessing over Nintendo shit. It could just be this type of individual (malignant parasite) is going to hop from one niche or trend to another, where we are simply in the “PSX era” of it. Even being a weeaboo or otaku 10 years ago isn’t even the same. These people can’t just hide behind anime because every Tom, Dick and Harry likes it now.

It’s also the writing equivalent of shooting yourselves in the foot. Every single great writer since Homer pulled from foreign literature/folklore in one way or another and reinterpreted that from their own perspective
The greatest linguist and author of recent times, Tolkien, literally pulled from the mythology of those from the Norse/Finnish/germans and repurposed it for his own stories to fit the narratives he was writing in his world. There is quite literally no excuse to be “as faithful and honest as possible” unless that is your intended goal in making something as a more realistic depiction than simply a piece of fiction. Trannies of course will never do this and need their next Japanese cyberpunk dystopia signalis a24 slow burn cruelty squad perepeteia hirotfina bunlith quake doom wolfenstein boomer shooter JRPG set in some fascist dictatorship in Neo-Japanese Moldova whereas in it must adhere to ALL cultural aspects so as to be truthful to the cultures they take from or however the visual scripting is coded o algo

Seriously what is it with tranny devs and visual scripting.

Trannies of course will never do this
We started this cultural appropriation discussion this past few pages because of a Kiwi complaining about trannies appropriating Eastern European culture and now we're blaming the trannies for being against cultural appropriation (?) Does anyone have an example?

What is specifically being argued is that they are against “cultural appropriation” in the sense of they don’t like something that is merely being repurposed in a respectful way or obviously trying to be comedic and instead trying to “be all culturally sensitive” or “accurate” to xyz culture as a Trojan horse. I can’t recall off the top of my head but there are multiple games where trannies will set whatever it is in Eastern Europe as a neat backdrop then try to act as if they know everything about Eastern Europe.

I think the main issue is lack of incentive to improve. I understand that making even a "Bad" project on a game engine requires some effort, especially if you're new; But this kind of niche has already formed a market - yet, the developers mainly cling to the same few tropes and development\design techniques, to try and imitate the same things they saw in older, fully produced games (While not fully analysing and employing techniques\decisions from those games). It's like when an AI gets trained on faulty\low quality information - the output is then also low quality.
It's the irony of the conversation nowadays especially with A.I where people either think or see it as a bad thing that A.I has the potential to get better. Like people if you feed it garbage it gives you garbage but unlike people it's a machine just doing its base job. People can sometimes on purpose produce garbage due to lack of understanding, maliciousness or because they just realistically aren't that creative. What we've seen in this thread is exactly what you said where it's people most imitating what they've seen and creating issues that the industry doesn't need because of that.

It's honestly a byproduct of what has always been an issue with indie games of being stuck about 5 to 10 years behind mostly and relying on what came before even if the times have changed.

cultural appropriation like all other concepts that come from the woke intersectional left is only an excuse to shit on white people. Everyone else can appropriate european culture, but whites can't enjoy any culture, not even their own, at least not without being flogged and guilt tripped over it. Brown people can still dress up as greek gods and we wuz kangs the roman empire or play vikings, but don't you dare put a white woman on a kimono or hire a white chef to do the tacos, only brown hands can perform the ancient art of the taco.

hes playing some le epic meme pokemon rom hack. you just know he is gonna voice all the lines.

Didn't want to shit on the Chibi thread with off-topic more than it is now.

This shit will forever annoy me when these types also scream about how cultures need to be more expressive and open while screaming anyone trying to enjoy them but aren't a part of it.

Indie games want to be respected as the spiritual successor to old AA/AAA games from 20+ years ago, but they aren't willing to be held to the same quality standards that games back then had. Like I'm watching a stream of this game, "Mouse P.I. For Hire" that just came out. The art direction is great, but the gameplay seems pretty subpar. It's understandable for a small team to have their strengths and weaknesses, but honestly I side with audiences here, because the responsibility falls on talented people like this to make the great games of the 2020's, so if they can't pull it together then we just won't get great iconic games this decade. As an indie you should forget that the word indie exists and try to make the greatest game humanly possible. Cuphead is proof that it's possible. I don't care that it was funded by Microsoft, what really matters is the size of the team, they did 80% of that game with a tiny handful of people

funded by Microsoft
Most popular indie games this decade have been early access seasonal fandumb bait and still aren't finished, even while having no shortage of resources or money.

Deltatroon is the worst example of this, it won't even be completed before it's 10th anniversary despite being an incredibly simple and mediocre pseudo-rpg. This has already been said before, but the only reason the game is so ridiculously popular and praised is because of the creator's cult following and the circlejerking fandumb that shuts down all negative discourse.

I will say again that UT isn't too bad when you get past the screaming troons and overall tism of the fandom. I have genuinely never finished Deltarune past the first chapter and some of the second because it's really boring. It kind of makes you realize how games like UT feel more like flashes in the pan and don't need sequels or new stories since eventually you have done everything you can with the premise.

Is it kind of like running the game in a VM?
Not exactly. A VM would be running a different OS on top of your current one to run the game. A wrapper is similar to an adapter between the old game and the new machine but not touching the game's code all too much. On paper and given proper execution, wrappers aren't that bad. However as we can see with Blood: Refreshed Supply it was dogshit.
In contrast to an actual source port is modifying the game engine's source code and getting it to run directly on your modern OS/machine.
The only reason Nightdive exists is for companies to capitalize on people's nostalgia and its effective.

I'm under the impression that the companies that use KEX engine are simply allergic to the idea of using the original engines, many of which are now GPL or otherwise open source.
Particularly GPL3 since they would be required to share the source code. I'm understanding if it's some new technology and you wish to leave it out of your competitors reach, but this is a game from the late 90's. Who cares? Afraid that EA or Ubisoft will learn how the room-over room portal rendering in Blood works?

I'm not even sure that they'd even have to make any modifications to the GPL engines. The content built on top of those engines can still be proprietary. Doom is still proprietary, even though its engine is not. Lots of commercial game releases, including the retroslop discussed in this thread, utilize GZDoom.

Heck, the BFG Edition of Doom 3 still used a heavily modified Id Tech 4 engine, and they released that version of the Id Tech 4 engine to the GPL, as they should. And that was a rerelease/remaster for consoles, even.

That source release was John Carmack's doing and the last thing he did before he'd had enough of Zenimax's shit.
Also, they could release on consoles without a source release because they were the original owners of the code and could thus license it to themselves as they pleased.
