People being flat earthers doesn't make them lunatics. It makes them gullible and foolish.

People get tricked by false arguments that sounds logical on the surface. The arguments are constructed by people to trick people with false facts. For an example, the claim is that if the earth was not flat, we should be able to see a curve on the horizon. we can't see a curve. then they try to sound smart by using complex mathematics. People who are not as intelligent scientifically or mathematically can see things like that and it can look and make sense to them because it has been constructed in a way to make people like them think it makes sense and it does make sense if the claims were true, which they aren't.

The other thing is there are people who are conspiracy theorists and they get trapped in conspiracies. to defend on idea being a conspiracy they have to invent another conspiracy to justify it. and it keeps spiraling out of control. Because they are convinced of the initial conspiracy, they feel like its necessary to conclude the other conspiracies too.

I avoid a lot of the foolish things people think by relying on people much less than others do and by giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. with the benefit of the doubt approach there's no way i can believe in these conspiracies which are necessary to bolster a lot of these ideas.

Also keep in mind that religion can have a brainwashing type of effect. It doesn't make the people stupid or lunatics, but because they don't want to give up a certain part of their religiion, cognitive dissonance or whatever it is kicks in and prevents them from thinking more critically.

I've believed some crazy things via religion. I've made a lot of progress over the years of change. I've had some more outlandish beliefs, but I keep searching and change my beliefs accordingly. hence why I no longer try to pretend I'm a jew when I used to do so. many other things I used to think and now i believe better things. I view myself as making general progress every year. I also believe in never ceasing to learn. keep learning for the rest of your life and keep asking questions. i ask questions all the time and i want to learn as much as I can about everything out there including views different than my own.

She's doing ok right now. Still throwing up but it seems its improving a little. We're pretty sure its probably the drug that she's been getting thats making her throw up. So we've stopped giving it to her for now. The problem is she was getting the drug to help with her thyroid problem to prevent her from losing weight. But because it might be causing vomiting, its not worth the risk anymore. Maybe there's another medication instead who knows.
