Rae's the most famous who made the switch in recent times. Noted floor crosser Chris D'Entremont was a Nova Scotia provincial MLA for years. Specifically as a member of the notoriously socially conservative Hamm government. Which makes his claims of being a red tory utter bullshit. If you're low profile it's easier to switch. But a Premier is not going to want to be a Federal back bencher.

Rae being leader was because they didn't want to put someone up until they were near an election. Giving the Canadian populace time to know a party leader before an election is a death sentence for their chances. If they had put Trudeau up 3-4 years before the 2015 election then the Liberals would have been slaughtered in that election.
 
I was thinking last night. It's hard to believe that in all likelihood as of this week we now have four years to go until the next federal election. Trump will be gone and there will probably be a democrat in the WH; this first wave of Alberta separatism will have resolved. So much changed from 2020-2025, how much worse are things going to be in 2029-2030?

What will Canadian politics be like in a post-Trump world? Libs will not get another POTUS threatening to annex us lol. Cons will continue to be compared to Trump/Hitler. Or has Trump traumatized Canadians enough they will be content to carry on destroying the country? Ford could die of a heart attack in the mean time. I can't think of anyone else the Cons could put forward, but maybe that won't matter so much anymore once Trump is gone, politics can go back to being relatively 'boring'.

There will be J.D. Vance in power from 28-36, the Democrats only have Newsom and Harris. Californians are leaving so quickly that the state is scrambling to tax whatever they can for however long they can once their out; he won't win. Harris obviously can't sleep her way into the presidential office, so she's out.

Canada will be buck broken by the CCP because it was delusional enough to think it was the little brother of America, while having none of our freedoms, which allows money to be made. The Cope will be that Carney and the Liberals were hamstrung by Trump's recklessness. Even though Carney ran on being able to protect Canada from Trump and his antics. So now that Trump is gone, the real work can be done so we have no choice but to keep them in power.

The funny thing is that after 4 years and the end of USMCA, other suppliers will fill the void and we will have to beg to be allowed back into the American market.

They will try, but even if rainbow worthy I don't think it'll fly too far. Trump is a lightning rod no other politician comes close to replicating; the Libs will try painting Vance and Rubio the same, but neither have the tweets and off the cuff remarks to easily take advantage of, and if the Dems win 2028 any anti-American politicking dies outright. Carney won in 2025 wholly from boomer feel-good vibes and Orange Man hate, a perfect storm that won't be repeated in 2029. The question is whether the Cons can pull their head out of their ass and make the most of it, but anyone banking on that should really be laying off the hard drugs.

The only way Carney's "strategy" can work for them is if British and French people suddenly became Somalian level retards like Canadians. For all of their faults, british and french people are way more aware of their country's issues than Leafs.

I watched these guys before 2025, they used to be okay despite the left wing bias, but they really became, for lack of a better word "trump deranged" after Nov 2024. I remember someone described them as the western's leftists version of 'Russia Today' which is pretty accurate nowadays.

It isn't just Trump, most Canadians hate America and Americans as a whole, when your whole national identity for the  entirety of the country's history has been being "not american" you get a group of people who are easily manipulated by their own institutions to think and act a certain way. Trump is a Flashpoint in the long bitter psyche of a country with an inferiority complex as deep seeded as Canada's is

Carney only has to resign when things get bad enough and everyone will just forget about all the evils that the Liberals have perpetrated. They are no doubt building off of the hatred of Trump to work their way into being much more openly Anti American and Pro China and EU, and with the full throated backing of the Elites and the State Media there will never be another change of government again, The NDP is now stuck with Avi Lewis who no doubt was the Liberals preferred leader because he's openly a crazy communist nepo baby who will never threaten the Liberals grasp on the urban seats, which in turn makes a Conservative Victory almost impossible no matter if they stick with Poilievre or if someone new comes in

Funnily enough I'd argue most are aware, it's just the media and government both are far more efficient at covering up the criticism. Britain especially has a long history of its media eviscerating its political class regardless of leaning, something you don't see here because most mainstream sources are already bought and paid for courtesy of Sock Boy's media subsidies. Only Postmedia rejects the subsidies, and thanks to it gets immediately discredited by the usual suspects which, because they're the only ones, makes it far easier for Libs and supporters both to treat like more niche groups such as Rebel News.

The vested interests in France and Britain actually look with longing on what Ottawa has achieved because they would kill to have the same level of control that the federal Libs have achieved over the past decade or so.

I've actually seen the opposite, where liberals wanted a jagmeet singh style leader who would never talk bad about the liberals. Communism is genuinely popular in Canada lets be honest, both because of the pro-China settlement and Communism being seen as anti-Amerikkkan and thus "good." I actually think people are underestimating how popular Avi can become.

Double post but disagree with this one. Carney was years in the making and was already being groomed as a successor before Trudeau Jr. has his pandemic fall from grace. Much like the Dems down south they have no natural successor waiting in the wings, no obvious candidate to help assuage boomers of their rightful place in the order of things. Whoever succeeds him when the baggage grows too large will not have the same easy path to majority status, especially given how bad things are going to inevitably get and just how radicalized the younger voter foundation the Libs bank on to keep the NDP from vote splitting will grow as promise after promise fails to be realized.
