Mega Rad Gun Thread

The side plate doesn't fit the frame.
Check for any tabs that slide under and into the frame as opposed to pressing or tapping it in, I don't know the quirks of each variation by heart but it may be up top by the hammer or down beneath the cylinder. While sometimes dirt and grime will prevent it from popping in place I don't think you're retarded.
Worse comes to worst, the old breed swears by the "freezer trick" where you freeze it overnight to slightly shrink the metal to allow reassembly. I think it's fudd voodoo and usually find ways around it though.

There's definitely a directionality to it in that it has to slide in from bottom to top, otherwise you do hit a tab, yeah. So I think I'm good in that sense.

I'll try the freezer. Why the hell not.

Well fellers, looks like I have suppressor number four on the way. The local shop that I got my SiCo Hybrid 46M had a few of the 9mm cans I've been reading up about in stock. The only one they didn't have was the Huxwrx Flow 9k. I decided to go with the Rugged Suppressors Sub9. Comes out of the box with a tri-lug mount, so it can go right on my Vector. I'll eventually get a HUB Nielsen Device to try on my Staccato P. Its a chubby can, so it likely won't work well on 9mm pistols with standard height irons, but I've got a red dot on my Staccato so it shouldn't be an issue.
The Flow9K Ti is actually similarly chunky - on my P09, the top of the can is at the exact same height as the suppressor sights on the pistol. Easy enough - just line the sights up and sight over the can like it's a shotgun with the front sight dot right over the target but obscured by the can. I do like that it came with a nielsen device pre installed and is hub-compatible, so I can move it around my handguns and swap for Plan B or tri-lug for other stuff.

Also bought a threaded barrel for my P365XL because why not:

It's actually very pleasant to shoot in this configuration, even if it is sorta ridiculous.

I just bought my first ever AR a couple days ago to add to my gun collection: a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport III for 700 bucks. I'm not in the market for a crazy expensive premium AR, and I don't know too much about the quality of cheap entry-level rifles from PSA and BCA, so I quickly just decided to go with a budget but reliable S&W instead. I'm gonna have to get sights and eventually upgrade the trigger and stock but it should (hopefully) be a great gun.

It'll be fine and you can tacticool it up with whatever you want. Congrats and I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

Hell yeah

Cant go wrong with Magpul for sights and stocks.
Dunno what the BCG on the Sport III is but that is another thing you may want to look into upgrading eventually. My people have all recommended the nickle boron Failzero BCG. Upgrading your BCG has the added benefit of letting you carry your old one in your range bag as an emergency backup.

Eh. Most BCGs in factory rifles are fine and changing them out will at best make cleaning a tiny bit easier without otherwise meaningfully changing things unless you buy lightweight carriers. I'm all about buying one (or at least a bolt and cam pin) as spares but take your first AR and run it as hard as you can on the clock, which will inform your decisions about your next one or the upgrades your current one needs.

youre gonna love it big dog

Hello friends.

As mentioned a while back, I'm attempting to restore a couple old guns that my dad left me when he died. I have a S&W 19-3 here, and before I get it refinished I wanted to make sure everything was it good order. It's worn, but otherwise looks okay, I think. Everything is here except the bolt plunger and spring, which was here until I left it go flying like a complete retard and it was never seen again. It's only like $10 but dammit... Now to be clear, this thing was 95% disassembled when I got it, so I don't know for sure that this was ever all one piece, although I believe it was. Here's the thing. The side plate doesn't fit the frame.

No, hold on. I don't mean it's hung up on the hammer block. I mean that even with the guts completely pulled out of the gun, the side plate won't drop in. I gave it a couple light taps with a hammer just to be sure, and the thing just plain does not fit. I've watched several videos on how it's supposed to go, and it just... doesn't.

Should this ever happen? Could it possibly be from a different gun of the same type? I've read some things that say the slide plate is fitted to the specific gun. Or am I just retarded?
The side plates are fiddly to get off and on. On my Anaconda it took a ton of tapping with the wood handle of a screw driver to get it loose enough to remove and a lot of tapping and fiddling again to get it back in.

Excellent choice!
PSA are cucks who want to photo id their customers and refuse to ship legal guns to patriots in captured states.

BCA were fine cheap jack uppers for $99 But then they raided the factory and unshackled the latinx children. So they're like $199 -$250 now.

For anyone who wants to build one, you can find complete build kits and pick up mags on for $300-400 on everygunpart.com, then just shop around for a blemished lower under $50 to ship to your ffl.

Hey, you can actually do that with black powder.

I've posited before that the gunpowder used in these clips is likely a local workshop product, and low quality enough that you can stuff the cases full without reaching dangerous PSIs on ignition.

I've got a P89 i bought NIB 4 or 5 years ago. it's had about 3k rounds through it and I've not lubed or cleaned it yet. no failures. great trigger. unironically the best automatic I've shot. far, far better than the Beretta 92 i had for awhile (to be fair it was a elderly italian surplus 92S)

From all the metal frame P-series pistols I've tested, the P89 trigger has the most rigid break. It is improved on a P90, and becomes acceptable on the P94. The firing pin block return plunger seems to be a shared problem, as it introduces a slightly gritty feedback to the trigger pull. If I ever take the rear sight off from the models I own, I'll consider polishing the plunger channel (to those unfamiliar with the P-series design, the channel is bored through the top of the slide, and the plunger return spring is held in place by the chonky rear sight it rests under).

In other news, Ian introduces another piece of odd military history:

Most BCGs in factory rifles are fine and changing them out will at best make cleaning a tiny bit easier without otherwise meaningfully changing things unless you buy lightweight carriers.
All I am doing is relaying advice that I personally received from the couple of people I know who do work with guns and work with other people who work with guns.

In a way, I agree with you since most people have guns for funs. As always, what you do with your gun depends on what you wanna use it for. If you're just using it at the range, probably don't need to change anything.

Hell, based on how most range creatures operate you could say even the sights are optional.

light strikes again but only with American Eagle and CBC magtech
oh god please don't tell me the 1500 rds of ammo I have linked isn't what's causing my light striking issues

FN is spinning up an Electrooptics division
is it USA made? The only places that produce rds emitters are Germany and China, would be cool if they started producing those in the US.

Looking at either the Huxworx Flow 9k or the Rugged Suppressors Sub9.
you should consider a saw shiv 9, just got mine in, it's pretty sweet, so light it doesn't need a booster, (IIRC full auto rated too).
the sound suppression is great for the size.
they ship to your door with capital armory though that takes a while.

Brownells has replacement plungers and springs fyi. Don't ask why I know :(

I ended up buying the Rugged Sub9. The local bang shop that I bought my SiCo Hybrid 46M had several of the suppressors I was considering in stock, including the Sub9, and I decided that was the one I wanted. It's low back pressure, it comes out of the box with a tri-lug mount so I can go right on my Vector, it takes HUB mounts, it was a decent price, and it is belt-fed full-auto rated for 9mm so it will go well with a Freedom Ordnance FM-9D when I get one later this year. Just waiting on my paperwork to get approved.

how-do-we-tell-him-mr-krabs.gif

it might be...... the last time I shot I made some links of PMC and NORMA which was fine. I'm trying wolf and some other junk this weekend. Also if you are using a cassette style FRT people on X have been complaining about light strikes. It has to do with the lever interacting with the BCG causing too much drag to feed, and trip the trigger. Using an Atrius or standard SS you should have much better results.
If it makes you feel better I also fell victim to SGammo and have about 650 rounds left.

Also ordered a stainless steel grip module for my Staccato P. The stippling on the stock grip on the Staccato is just too damn aggressive and wears holes in clothing, so I've been looking at a more suitable alternative. Guncrafter Industries is offering one in either aluminum or stainless with a frag grenade-esque pattern that I really like, so I went ahead and ordered it. I'm considering also having the trigger changed out for a flat faced one. I went with a Black Multicam finish on my new grip for a little character. It'll look kinda like this when it's done.

@gernig, you should also get either a spare lower parts kit or what's sold as an "oops" kit as well if you have any plans to take your new AR apart and/or modify it. Springs and detents will occasionally fly off or fall into the nether realm when you start taking things apart.

Unironically been carrying a s&w model 10 (new ones come without the hillary hole! 😮) after buying it with my tax returns last month. Only been daily driving it for a month at this point but it has been fun, and I don't really mind the weight nor feel undergunned. Oddly enough it seems to sit better in my waist than the g19 I carried for a decade does, possibly due to all the weight being in the cylinder of the gun instead of the grip. I just like carrying it, it feels weirdly comfortable just grabbing the gun and not worrying about the optic or the light and while I'm sure I'm going to run into a situation were being able to do a reload with retention to swap in a new stendo will be the only way to prevent myself from dying in the streets I guess I'll just die then because carrying the grandpa revolver has felt a lot more comfortable than the glock or the one or two times I tried carrying my m&p.
