That's what I was thinking too, like why would he suddenly bring it up, and try to come clean. And honestly he even approached it in a respectable way: didn't try to worm his way out, denounced his former views, admitted they were foolish, and apologized. I don't know what else can be reasonably required from someone who held stupid views years ago.

But of course he had to ruin it with the rest of his essay, you can easily miss his entire point because it's buried under yet another redundant tirade against Stallman, potshots at kiwifarms hecklers, and some general yelling at clouds. The admittedly sincere-sounding confession and, dare I say, brief repentance in the middle gets drowned out by the preamble and his subsequent declarations of unwavering allegiance to the LGBTQI and antifa. I bet this sounds normal to him and in his circles it's perhaps even expected but it's out of place if you really want to make amends or earn back some respect after getting exposed like that.

I only found this thread because @Ferryman and @prollyanotherlurker mentioned Drew as the maintainer of Sway over in the Linux thread.

Drew DeVault has single handedly put me off of using or recommending Wayland for the foreseeable future. When I do consider it again, I'll definitely look into Hyprland rather than Sway. Even though I've use i3 for years, and generally prefer software written in C.

Drew is a boil on the back of Open Source software, and I am glad to know to avoid his retardation. He definitely strikes me as a person who spends too much time online rather than with those around him.
