Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

It also really suffers from the modern cartoon inability to create a rising conflict without being slowed down with the weight of filler episodes. I swear to god for every one episode of plot three more are fillers that contribute nothing. I get having downtime in your series but it shouldn't be at the cost of plot progression. Another jab at the Marco dimensional centric episode here: why include something heavy then immediately offset it with nonsense in the following episode? Why dedicate an entire episode to it when it won't matter to character/plot development in the long run? It just causes huge tonal dissonance and makes it an even bigger elephant in the room.

I know I shouldn't be analyzing a kids cartoon this much like a sperg but it's annoying from a story writers' perspective.

No, m8. Don't feel bad about sperging too much. You nailed pretty well some major reasons why I have little to no love for this show, nor its fanbase. Thank you. Thank you so fucking much.

Hell, the fact that filler bogs down a plot isn't just limited to shows like Star Vs. or SU. I'd argue the Simpsons does it pretty often too these days with its "go nowhere" subplots within the same episode. It's just that those shows have half the running length of your average cartoon, thus making it more annoying when you get an entire half-season of filler before the plot decides to show itself once again. Moreso if it's an overarching premise or plot line.

Hell, I'll one up Star and Steven by mentioning how Transformers G1 tried this during the third season with the defection of Blitzwing and how it ultimately went nowhere after the span of one episode- the episode it was brought up in. Because the next episode the plot is brought up, Blitzwing's suddenly replaced by another, completely different character carrying out that plot point as if the character switch never happened.

Also I'm very bothered with the animation. In the first season it's very bouncy and fluid which is kinda rare for a flash animation but in the second season it's all stilted and stiff, even when they make exaggerated expression it looks off.

I'm also thankful that Marco's ethnicity isn't too distastefully shoehorned for representation points (I'm Mexican myself) and is just a character that just so happens to be Mexican rather than a Mexican character.

Just be glad it's not tumblr-levels of representation.

I think a large part of that is how season 1 was partly outsourced to the guys responsible for the modern Mickey Mouse shorts. Seasons 2-3 are Korean-sourced.

Animation collab between a bunch of YouTube animators for an animated version of a Game Grumps episode: specifically Battle Kid Part 3.

As awesome as this is, I'm just really saddened by the fact this is the best piece of 2D Western animation I've seen in years.

And yet people stupidly obsess over Star Vs., Steven Universe, and MLP, thinking otherwise. Fucking stupid sheep, the whole lot of them.

Gotta agree with you guys - the animation on display here is much more fluid and lively, making things far more engaging and interesting to look at than any of those examples combined.

I do have faith in this special (reboot, but not like PPG2016 is - and sucks for. FACT.) being awesome, that much is for sure.

I will say I feel at home here.

But what about samurai jack season 5 animation?

Look what dropped today:

Is it me, or is this actually gonna be good?

I doubt /co/ will react positive after having ptsd over watching samurai jack's ending in s5. But to me, I hope it's good.
