SUPER DEBT! is a video game, so of course I want it to be fun and entertaining, but I also want it to be art! That means having a perspective, and I don't plan on pulling any punches. 👊

The frustrating lie of meritocracy has festered in me for as long as I can remember. From an early age, I've only seen good hard-working people struggle and be taken advantage of. The generous and kind writhe in financial insecurity while those who take advantage are unencumbered by worry. We live in a world where the worst part of getting sick isn't always the ache, but it is having to navigate a complex and often cruel healthcare system. That alone has drastically changed how I view the economic system we live under.

Shitposting aside, this really is a great example of indieslop, so I don't know what to say that hasn't been said about any of these other projects. Rogue-like bullet hell with pixel art, capitalism bag, and hideous female character design by le quirky goofball solo dev. I suppose the only shock is that the protagonist is a female (if a putrid-looking one) as opposed to a gender ambiguous theythem. The only other thing of note is that you can really tell how dead Bluesky is: this project is at 17k dollars, and the dev's most liked Bluesky post is at only ~110 likes, with most not even cracking double digits. Harrowing.

They spend so much effort trying to wear fashionable clothes to pass, gaming, and gooning, there's absolutely no way they can spare thought for originality. Besides, they're trying to skinwalk, so their life is copying something else already.

We had this thing called "Shareware", when your game is free for it's first part\few levels, and then to get the full experience you'd have to buy the full version. Would be something nice to add to the "nostalgic" feeling of one's indie game, since this trick is from the 90's.

This dripfeeding scheme modern indies do is parasitic - you have no guarantee if the game will be finished, patched, released (Because most of the time those projects are eternally "Beta" or preview) or if the developer will actually continue making the game. But you still pay money for the stuff you want to play, you're still offered merchendise. It's like some variation of cyber-usury.
Hot take: Early Access and Roadmaps are cancer. I would rather people ship finished products day one, both in games and software, no matter the amount of bugs rather than endless playtesting and content drip feeds disguised as bug fixes and optimizations. No game is optimized in current year, nobody gives a shit. If people gave a shit, games would still be 15 GB and run on potato pcs. Instead we have a shitty cartoony boomer shooter which is 7 gb and cannot run on old hardware, struggling to process particle effects.

I also wish people optimized their games much better. It's a reason Microsoft fucked up when making the AOE definitive edition expansions. They wanted to cater to the Vietnamese, which are huge on AoE 1 because it can run on a potato with a couple of wires. The problem is that the execs in Microsoft didn't saw that and went ahead by releasing AOE1 in the AoE 2 definitive edition engine.

The industry must be raped, enslaved and forced to ludovico their way through the methods of open sourcers and 90s devs. Seriously, the work people put in open source communities is amazing, stuff like OpenTTD and OpenRA have industry standard UX and processing capability while still being barely 100mb and running on potatoes. And by industry standard I mean fps unlocks, high res, sprite reworking, ai fixes and whatnot.

That's how feedback is supposed to work - you give out a product, and then when the clientel tells you what issues\positives it has, you redo it and re-ship the product. I don't know why a game can't be released like a supply line of designer clothes does, it's basiscs of business.

This design would be ok if it was a kids show where obvious exaggeration is the normal and it's supposed to be ham fisted. This is from a game i would assume the dev wants other "adults" to play and it gets to the point where you're like you can't just try to sell people "i'm so quirky and goofy!!uwu" when like 100 other "unique" devs are doing the same exact thing for probably less.

To add to the point this shows the very crystal clear problem this thread has been archiving and we've said many times. It's the same thing made by the same people with nothing new to say and want 10k+ to "stick it to the man!"

Implying Tetris, Mega Man, Super Mario, Castlevania, Tempest, Space Invaders, Dodonpachi, Battle Garegga, Raiden, Crimzon Clover, DariusBurst, Bubble Bobble, Metal Slug, OpenTTD, Factorio, Mindustry, MDK, Quake, Unreal, DOOM, Minecraft, Terraria, Starbound etc aren't art because they don't have a generic "capitalism bad" message. Being fun and entertaining IS the art you retard!
