The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

i need to figure out how to make it work in virtu-manager so i can try to test it out before deployment. The network setup portion is giving me trouble.
You need to set up two (virtual) interfaces for the OpnSense VM—one for WAN traffic, one for LAN traffic—then assign them within OpnSense accordingly. That's basically it for a start.

I never understood why linux fanboys always go by way of condescending when faced with anyone who has different values in computing.
It's less of condescension of people with different values in computing when you're the one heading into the topic with assumptions like
Please do not talk of Arch. I value time.

Sorry but I refuse to “build my OS”. It seems infantile to me. All I care for is competence, I don’t mind using the terminal. I’ve personally never tried any distributions outside of Ubuntu derivatives (because software & lack of knowledge).

But I really ask, why is there no standard? Especially in these days of Win11 fallout, when the normies are ripe for change, why do you cut their hands off? Don’t you wish for the fall of SlopOS’s? It really should not be a question of “doing research”- no, you can do that for your hobby distros.

1. Installing Arch is not "build my OS"
2. Setting that aside, labeling building an operating system as infantile is bananas. Extend that metaphor and you'll see how ignorant of a statement that is. I could see why someone wouldn't value that or want to do that, but the hard work of actually building an operating system is infantile? Really?
3. There are standards you fool. Redhat, or Ubuntu/Debian variants. Just install mint, it gets you the deb variant. This has been the standard for DECADES

Guys i need a Linux distro but i do NOT want to learn how to use linux. Please do not tell me i'm retarded, I WILL screech about how you're actually the retarded one.
I'm a retard who doesn't understand Linux but that does not hold me back from using Linux Mint everyday. Even for a tech-illiterate mouth breather such as myself it is an infinitely more straightforward and painless experience than Windows. It has made using my computer a rather therapeutic and enjoyable experience and would be my recommendation.

Then fuck off, go whine in the Windows thread.

"I don't use Linux because my online only slop that will be taken offline in five or less years doesn't play on it!"

This is why we don't want to cater to you. Fuck off.

There's having different values and then there's you, a fucking retard, who should go back to reddit. You're not looking for distro opinions, you're just being annoying.

I don't really care about the normies. They are going to use one of the brands of PhoneOS and have to put up with all the garbage that entails. What they, you or anyone else does is their own business.

The entire point of Linux (and Free/Open Source software in general) is that you can make of it what you want.
Don’t you wish for the fall of SlopOS’s?
I don't care at all. It is irrelevant what Microsoft, Apple and Google do.

i did but I think it keeps setting the interfaces wrong internally. Because it cant access it from the host machine.

Install Proxmox. You can rent out unused space on your computer to morons on LowEndBox.
I was planning on possibly trying proxmox eventually but it was going to be so i could have windows as a guest while I pass through my nvidia gpu for games/apps that dont like to run under wine. I got the idea from mudaha on youtube and he said he was going to make a video on how to setup the passthrough but I never checked to see if he ever posted it.

Decided to give sched_ext a go after forgetting about it when it made news a year or so ago. It allows you to dynamically change the Linux kernel scheduler to something more fitted for gaming. Wasn't expecting much going into it but trying it out on CS2 I averaged almost 20% better performance, going from ~130 fps average to ~165 in a deathmatch game with bots using the scx_ladv variant. Another win for Linux gaming.

Ayy, I have a 15 minute Teams interview (fml) for a C# job. I have no fucking idea what planet I'm on, but there are 5 people in this call plus HR and some are pajeets. What do for prep? I'm already reimplementing some stuff into that ecosystem.

So bit related cause android is technically Linux
My phone contract ends in like 1.5y and I'm looking at going back to BYOD
What's the consensus on android modding should I go with graphene or calyx or lineage or what
I use Google services for some stuff but I'd like my phone not to be a literal wiretap

Last time I looked at this unless you were using the google pixel line all android modding seemed to have died off. Was very depressing.
