I have the exact reverse argument. If you're in assisted living and realistically near the end of your life, is the point really to just protract your earthly existance as much as possible without imbibing in some fine spirits? It is, after all, a way of coping with your given situation. This argument was had by way of marijuana legalization for veterans and the like that had sustained life-altering injuries.

Like realistically I don't think grandma with late-stage dementia and maybe 2 good years left is really going to be hurt by the increased chance of liver failure.
