The Boys - An Amazon Prime adaptation of the Ennis comic series

Same brand of insanity. Same ridiculous fanbase. It's like asking me if I want lung or ass cancer.
You want ass cancer, btw. Ass cancer is much more treatable than lung cancer. I hope you never get any cancer. Go to your doctor! ETA- And call your Mom and Dad, damnit! Why do men never call their Mom and Dad?

That bad, eh? Damn.........

What's kind of funny is that kind of deconstruction used to be seen as novel. But now? It's just tired.
Makes me want to see characters like butcher and marshal law in a a universe with actual superheroes who are good people and are very necessary in their universe to save humanity from all kinds of threats and how these characters would actually be seen as psychopaths because the author isn’t twisting the story to make them 100% right

Imagine if Butcher met Japanese Spider Man. It'd be fucking hilarious to see how Butcher would react to the giant robot or Spider Man wiping bad guys out with an uzi.

I've only seen this show in clips and I don't understand how there has been five seasons of this. It's not even a real superhero story; the equivalent would be if every DC character just hung around in Metropolis for five years randomly murdering people and occasionally other heroes and doing nothing else but jacking off and climbing into random penises. Also there seem to be about twenty people who have had a chance to kill the jackass main character but for some reason never actually do it even though they are either terrified of him or just hate him and want him dead.

accurate
nothing of value has happened since the first season
actual plot progression got reset after every season before this one even

The only episodes that really have anything happen in them after season 1 are the first and last episodes of each season. Anything introduced between them gets resolved in increasingly unsatisfying ways that make you wonder why they even bothered.

I have to share this absolutely fucking hilarious page with you guys I stumbled on in an Ennis thread elsewhere.

damn, dude
it's, like, so brave
the justice league who has saved the world time and time again from threats like these where alien lifeforms take over people and saved them without killing them has no room to judge some literal contract killer whose first instinct was to just shoot them
his actions were truly resolute and justifiable
Reminds me of the show pulling that "look how useless heroes are in combat, you need REAL SOLDIERS on the ground" stunt with Soldier Boy's team. Like yeah, no shit, you had untrained people dropped into an active combat zone...of course they're going to be useless.

It didn't make sense in or out of universe.

That was also in the comics. Just far worse because it literally had Soldier boy piss himself. Every time.

Basically the first episode of the season where half of it was kind of interesting and moved the plot along, only to come to a screeching fucking halt the second starlight showed up. And then at the end they all make retarded decisions

In other words, filler content.

Soldier Boy's team in the show killed Grace Mallory's men to remove any witnesses to them handing Soldier Boy over to the Russians, last I checked. They made it look like they were comically-inept buffoons to hide their act of high treason.

Soldier Boy pissed himself because Garth Ennis fucking hates Captain America, so his Cap expy is a dork who pisses himself.

The show was written to satirize superhero comic books, but they inherited the weaknesses of superhero comic books.

you don't understand
being bulletproof , super fast, super strong, and having higher reaction times is totally inferior to being a trained soldier who uses guns
Basically, that's how the comics wipe out large superhero teams. Some dudes with guns rip them to shreds. Like I said, Garth Ennis has a big, girthy boner for the Order 66 trope of super-powered beings getting wiped out by regular mooks.

First, the Godolkin X-Men expies get wiped out by a black-ops team of mercs with machine guns, flamethrowers, and stinger missiles, then Homelander's superhero army gets wiped out by jet fighters as if they were some dirt-poor militia from some banana republic.

Godolkin Massacre:

DC Superhero Massacre:

The irony is, if it were actual Supes and not just Garth Ennis' parodies of them, a single supe with laser vision can kill both the black-ops teams and the entire armada of jet fighters with a single optical laser blast going from left-to-right, like what happened in the show with Homelander's delusion of killing a dissident crowd. Or maybe a psychic supe can send their bullets and missiles flying back at them. Or maybe a mind-controlling Supe can get the soldiers and pilots to kill each other instead. Or a superhero with durability and strength can just charge in and tear the soldiers apart, or jump on a plane and tear it in half with their bare hands.

Hitman is actually Ennis' superhero criticisms at their most reasonable. Never-kill rules are redditoid slop for those who won't suffer when violent criminals are constantly let out. Normal people don't have the luxury of letting villains backstab them with muh human rights.

this doesn't work when you have to make superman of all fucking people, really almost everyone at the top of the entire justice league, job for a guy with a gun to save the day
holy shit

Never-kill rules are so that you don't have to make a new supervillain every time the heroes are done fighting the current one. Why doesn't Peter Parker just snap Doc Ock's neck? So that he can come back a few issues from now and do the same shtick. Of course, these were the days before Superman died and then came back to life so who gives a shit nowadays if the Punisher shoots The Russian through the throat? He can just come back with his head attached to a different body and- wait what the fuck that actually happened. They made his new body a female one, too. Oh my mistake, his head was put back on his original body, they just gave him soy shots that gave him tits and apparently a PMS, and he decided to dress up like a woman. What the fuck
