Trump bombing a school killing a bunch of kids? It was out of the news cycle in less than a week. The same people saying it's good that 150+ girls were murdered because they're brown are the same ones feigning outrage when Obongo bombed that wedding.

To be fair, twelve years ago was the start of GamerGate, which is where everything truly started going to shit.

But before that: regarding Obama, dude was stonewalled by McConnell for six years, making him more ineffectual than anything. He couldn't do anything past 2010 once the Senate flipped red and stayed that way, though arguably it was his fault it flipped red to begin with. He--and by extension the rest of the Democrats--squandered that opportunity those first two years gave him to ram through everything he needed to while completely unopposed. Instead, he tried to be diplomatic towards the right wing as a gesture of healing after the mess of the Bush years (side note: has anyone else noticed that the boomers are starting to get nostalgic for 9/11?), and that bit him in the ass hard.

In particular, Obamacare was nowhere as effective as it could have been because he kept trying to compromise, while the Republicans just kept refusing every single olive branch he extended regardless of what he conceded. That let the Republicans blame their own obstinance on him, calling him the divisive one, and take control of Congress for the next eight years in the 2010 midterms. We'd have been far better off if early Obama was as ruthless as early Trump: ignoring the other side and forcing through as much as he could for as long as he had total control. But he didn't, and now we're paying the price.

Even so, I'd go back to Obama in a heartbeat if he were allowed to run again. Not that I'm saying he should be, mind you, but if Trump succeeds in abolishing term limits to let himself run again, then fuck it. If nothing else, Obama was an effective diplomat. Well-spoken, charismatic, and cordial, the dude oozed "cool" the same way that pre-Lewinsky Clinton used to with an added scholarly vibe atop that, and gave America the image of an actual modern country rather our prior and subsequent reputation of a bunch of boorish, ignorant, selfish hicks trying to go back to--alternatively--the 1980s, the 1950s, or the 18th century. Obama felt like a leader instead of a ruler, and he gave the world confidence in America being the leader. Like his policies or not, the rest of the world liked Obama in ways Trump could only dream of (aside from his dictator buddies, of course).

But aside from Obama hampering that overbearing "world police" image, Republicans' resentment of him--the older ones, that is--and his "divisiveness" was always just about him being a black guy who was technically in a position of authority over them. That's why they think "Trump is your president" is such a gotcha, because they were tortured for eight years by the knowledge that Obama was their president. Now, they'll deny it to the death, but if you drill down past all the deflection and rhetoric, their attitude really did always just boil down to a manifesto of "niggers don't own us, we own them!" Look up Richard Spencer's post-Charlottesville tantrum for an apt summation: "Those pieces of shit [leftists and especially blacks] get ruled by people like me [wealthy white nepo-babies]! They look up and see a face like mine looking down at them!”

That's what motivated the birther movement in the first place, with them using that whole "Kenyan birth certificate" hoax trying to try to invalidate Obama's presidency the entire time ("a black person can't possibly be a natural-born American!"), and eventually mutating into the Tea Party movement, which later became the older half of MAGA. And lest we forget: the one who started the whole birther mess in the first place? Trump himself. A lazy, pampered rich boy who had a father in the KKK and was long past his relevance as a reality TV personality, seeing a black dude come up from nothing and end up his "master" meant that he had a hard-on for Obama since day one. Fuck, his entire motivation for running for president in the first place was Obama mocking his birther shit once during a public dinner and then a few other people's tweets needling him on it afterwards. Dude's entire presidency comes from him being a useless, thin-skinned pissbaby who couldn't handle not being on top.

As for the younger Republicans? There were no younger Republicans prior to GamerGate, at least not in any significant capacity. The right wing as a whole was dying off during the turn of the 2010s, just seen as "your old racist uncle who's only going to be a nuisance for a few more years before he drinks himself dead". But then the slowly-brewing youth culture war in the gaming industry boiled over into politics. The whole "they targeted gamers, this is just another boss fight" manifesto was a rallying cry for what would become the younger half of MAGA. Those maladjusted protozoa didn't care one bit about politics before they saw it as the factor behind why those Tumblr girls were so mean to them for a few months. This is why I've in past labelled Zoe Quinn as Trump's biggest accomplice, because she alone gave the right wing that pivotal push it needed for the rise of Trump. The racist hick ("niggers don't own us!") and worthless neckbeard ("they targeted gamers!") contingents were each laughable packs of whiners on their own, but combined they had just enough bodies to squeak over the finish line in the Electoral College despite still losing the actual vote. Thus landing us in the mess we're in today.
