Allar is another one of Rooney's Pennsylvania QB reclamation projects, he played at Penn State and therefore is destined to sell jerseys because there's already a lot of his fans here
It worked well enough last time, though I think most Steelers fans who bought Pickett jerseys were doing it as a meme.
The whole family apparently has generational trauma from allowing Chuck Noll to draft Gabe Rivera instead of Dan Marino.

From a Cowboys beat writer on the trade with filthy last night and Pitt being mad about it:

People talk shit about Jerry Jones but the Cowboys are very, very good at drafting. Their picks this year are all players that are going to come in and make an instant impact. Their defense should be much better this year.

lol at Beck going to Arizona

And Arizona shows why it will always be a poverty franchise. First two picks in the draft after being complete ass and blowing everything up are a RB at number 3 and a QB with a reputation for being a dumbass.

This is the first time in a long time I feel like the Bengals absolutely nailed the draft from start to finish. Also, I dont want to jinx it, but Diego Pavia going undrafted just feels so satisfying.

Has Melanie Kiper had a wine induced meltdown over one of the highest rated QB's on the draft board still being available yet?

Why the fuck did the Steelers pick Drew Allar? Over Garrett Nussmeier ?

I feel bad for Nussmeier. A guy named Athan Kaliakmanis gets drafted over you after you're a 1st round grade a year ago? NFL teams must have seen a lot they didn't like on tape.

I'd say Saints should take Garrett but Tyler Shough did improve at the end of the season.

Shough looked like a real starting QB for the last half of the season so there was no reason to go with a QB.

Teams have been making some weird decisions. In no world are guys like Taylen Green, Kaliakmanis, or especially Carson Beck better than Nussmeier who does have some starting upside. I think Nuss ends up with a similar problem to Shedeur or Desmond Ridder, teams probably look at him as good enough to start, not good enough to be confident in him as "the guy". But with the 7th round dwindling away, surely somebody like Indianapolis should give him a shot?

True but a better backup QB option would've been nice. It's either Spencer Rattler or Zach Wilson taking the charge if he gets injured. I like the kid and I pray someone picks him up if he becomes a udfa.

If someone were to use the final pick in Diego Paiva, it wouldn't surprise me

Indianapolis should give him a shot
If they get rid of AR, I wouldn't be opposed to it. As a Texans fan, the Colts are the only team I genuinely see as formidable rivals.

The chiefs really snatched him right now

And thus end the draft. may god have mercy for those on cursed teams for those teams will show none, Amen

Yeah, uhh, I think Penn fans would rather bury Allar six feet under instead of buying his jersey. They were pretty fucking tired of him.

tbh I think that's a pretty good indicator of a bust. BYU fans wondered why Zach Wilson was drafted, Florida fans wondered why Anthony Richardson was drafted. Good luck Steelers.
Oh, please don't mistake this as me saying it's a good strategy, I'm just squaring up Rooney's actions with his recent statements.
This mindset of trying to sell a local success story, make the Steelers more Pittsburgh, if you will, is also why they went for Mike McCarthy as coach. His dad was a city firefighter.
People defaulted to that being another attempt to bring Rodgers back, but a) I don't think people remember how frosty things got towards the end of McCarthy's time in Green Bay, and b) they just lost the coach he loved playing for. It's because Mike's from Pittsburgh, and got credit for Aaron's development in the first place.

I don't think he has the talent or the physics to make it in the NFL anyway, but I thought some dumbass GM would take flyer on Pavia in the 7th round.

"It doesn't stand for anything," said Thomas in a September 2024 episode of "The Ref 1400" podcast. "Some people put a period there [after the R]. My first name is R Mason. There's a space in between the capital R and the capital M. My mom didn't want me to be an R name, like Richard or Raymond. But on her side of the family, [there are] a lot of R names. Her dad, her grandfather, my uncle, her brother, even his son's name starts with an R. She didn't want an R name, but she wanted to keep the R going, so she made it R Mason."

Nigger logic. But I like the pick.

Yeah. I don't think anyone wanted to take a chance on the bastard after the antics. Seeing how he saw Johnny Manziel as a role model, I don't blame them. He'll be playing for the Louisville Kings next season in the UFL. AND THAT'S ME BEING GENEROUS

Use the timer, this is the kind of quick decision making and problem solving you want in your franchise QB.

I'm so fucking tired of the Packers losing games due to missed kicks that I'm glad my team traded up 2 late round picks to draft a kicker. The terrorist McManus and the school teacher were both such heartbreaking false hope. These are the stats I have to cope with
GREEN BAY – The Packers traded both of their seventh-round picks Saturday to make their final selection of the draft, moving up to take Florida kicker Trey Smack at No. 216 overall, the last pick of the sixth round.
Green Bay acquired the pick from Seattle, who received the No. 236 and 255 overall selections in the seventh round.
Smack (6-1¼, 188) has a big leg, setting the Florida school record with 10 made field goals of 50-plus yards over the past three seasons. He made 10-of-13 from 50-plus, including 5-of-6 last season with a long of 56 yards. He was named third-team All-SEC.
For his career, Smack made 53-of-64 field goals (82.8%) and 100-of-101 extra points (99%). Known for his high trajectory, Smack had just one kick blocked, back in 2023.
Smack comes to Green Bay as the third kicker on the current roster, joining veteran Brandon McManus and Lucas Havrisik.

Inshallah one of these 3 can reliably make a fucking field goal next season.
I miss Mason Crosby so much
