I feel like the real problem is that the student to faculty ratios are beyond fucked in just about every educational institution with the only exception being small private schools that actually give a shit about their students. This goes far beyond just teachers and actually extends to the administration who have to deal with accommodations, rule enforcement, scheduling, etc and 9 times out of 10, they're horrifically understaffed with a few people in the office handling everything.

I changed schools a lot from kindergarten to 12th grade so i had probably over 100 different teachers. If we disregard hands on things like shop or band, I can count on one hand the amount that did a better job actually teaching me than wikipedia.
 
Will this be another nothing ever happens moment again. Talked about for 2 days and then swept under the rug and forgotten about. Kinda like the last 2 attempts got dusted away pretty quick and the Charlie Kirk assassin was kinda forgotten about too.

I had an appointment with one of those much maligned Afrikaner refugees yesterday.

He is a 50+ year old mechanical engineer from the urban hellscape of Pretoria who arrived in Texas just 3 weeks ago with his wife, 2 suitcases and just $5k after selling his few liquid assets in SA and abandoning everything else. He promptly spent most of the $5k on rent as the federal refugee stipend didn't initially cover it. No professional qualifications or certs that carry over due to only ever working in South African domestic industries (no multinational work experience), and not even enough funds to buy a car, which is necessary to survive in Texas.

But he already lined up 6 interviews, and walked 5 miles round-trip in the humid heat and with a debilitating back injury to make it to his appointment with me. No whining, no complaints, just sad for those who remain behind and trying to put his new life in order and get off government assistance asap.

I'm ok with it if they keep bringing these types over. Although they don't have the youth and vigor to fight for a better future for their people in the cutthroat hellscape of SA, they can still contribute something to a civilized and functional society like in US.

If you're hiring a systems programmer (or even a lowly game developer who's going to be doing engine work), ask them to explain SFINAE (and if it's not an in-person interview, time their response and watch closely for signs they're looking it up), and why it might be beneficial to perform compile-time computations and branching. Literally any competent programmer can answer those questions quickly and reasonably well even if they've never actually dabbled in it.

It's not actually "hard" -- it's just proof that whoever's shitting on C++ has never done anything interesting with it. Standard procedure for Rusties, of course. Particularly because among other things it can help guarantee that blessed "type safety" they constantly brag about Rust having and C++ lacking, and with zero runtime cost.

With template metaprogramming, you can get fun stuff like duck typing, static polymorphism (at no run-time cost), tag dispatching, and a favorite for math geeks -- expression templates, which (among other things) lets you do fancy matrix computations without creating unnecessary temporary values at runtime by describing your operations as templates, allowing the compiler to write the underlying matrix functions (optimized) for you.

There's a ton more you can do with it. Rusties always just treat C++ templates as "copy/paste for repetitive code" without realizing you can use templates to make the compiler write smarter code for you.
