In one of her fics Vanitas complains about the unkempt yard that needs new sod. And just like everything else in there it's true to life. Her dad probably can't do the gardening anymore. I wanted to say Pixy might be back on her meds again since she is gardening. But she's also dying again. 🤔

It's sod season in Texas. She's just participating in the annual yard remodel party. The weather is cruel down here, it takes concentrated effort to maintain a nice yard, with the heat and pouring rains and hurricane winds. She doesn't realize it, but she's been subconsciously influenced by everyone around her and is just doing what people do this time of year, toiling away in a yard that will just be destroyed in a few months anyway, to start all over again next year.

It drives me bonks that so many Texans refuse to go the way of many people in Arizona, and give up on non-native yards. The soil and weather patterns are so unforgiving here, you really need a determined plant to survive without intense intervention. She could grow coastal prairie plants with insane ease and save money and time and possibly even get a tax break, depending on the property and how it's managed. But no doubt she does see lawn care as the 'dad' thing to do, and she is an elder, damnit! Respect her lawn care!

Individuals who work for large sod companies often get cheap off cuts and sell them by the piece on the side of the road/in the Lowe's parking lot to scrape a dime off the uneducated passerby. I'm seeing a lot of trailers with pieced out turf right now. King Ranch has a huge sod farm near me, it's a crazy business, considering how much water is needed and how little natural groundwater Texas has left. But that's a rant for a different thread. All this just to say that she is just going through the motions of a regular Joe Texan without having a fucking clue what she's working with.
