Echoing what other posters have said. A lot of these questionable foods exist as solutions to problems we don't have to think about anymore living in places of year-round abundance with reliable grids and a working fridge/freezer in most homes, unless you go camping, enlist, live off grid, grow/raise your own food, are homeless or otherwise refrigeratorless. And there's still enough of a market for them among those groups or people who developed a taste for them while living in those conditions to keep buying them when they don't need to.
Your other option is to do things the stupid way, like Kyttie Von Toyye, and spend a king's ransom on ice to keep your cooler cold enough to ideally not get food poisoning from the fresh fish and whatever other perishables you keep buying instead of switching to shelf-stable foods.
