After reading the manifesto, I'm struck by how polite and non-schizo the guy seems to be (well, other than whatever mental problems/TDS led him to do this in the first place). And I think that makes this attempt scarier than the previous attempts by the pants-on-head brigade of crazies.
Most of us couldn't get into Caltech. The guy's probably closer to Ted Kaczynski as far as (attempted) murderers go.

Even Kaczynski was a stone cold moron. His whole justification for violence was that nobody would hear his message otherwise, but if he just waited a few years he could have gotten a blog. He could be a giant Tik Tok star by now. Or if he really wanted to give up technology he could go be peaceful Amish and have 15 kids. Some morons just test well.

Between the manifesto and what's been publicly found in his social media (primarily bluesky), I think what's more disturbing is that Cole Allen appears to have been radicalized to assassination by standard, mainstream messaging from Democrat politicians and media, NOT the crazy online/college far-Left activists as you'd expect. It looks as if he took the Democrat slogan about Trump being a "threat to democracy" seriously and acted accordingly.

From the manifesto:
  • Cole cites himself as a church-going Christian, anathema to the far-Left
  • He appears to value the United States as a nation
  • He calls Trump "pedophile, rapist, and traitor" twice, seemingly putting great emphasis on the Epstein hoax that Dems have been pushing heavily
  • "I’m not the person raped in a detention camp." Narrative about deportations pushed heavily by Dems.
  • "I’m not the fisherman executed without trial." Narrative about Venezuela and foreign drug runners pushed heavily by Dems.
  • "I’m not a schoolkid blown up" Narrative about the Iran War pushed heavily by Dems.
  • "or a teenage girl abused by the many criminals in this administration." Again, Epstein hoax pushed heavily by Dems.
From bluesky:
  • Appears to like Will Stancil, who's hated by the far-Left
  • Appears to dislike Hasan Piker, criticizing his recent New York Times podcast appearance supporting stealing and societal disorder
  • Appears to be a big supporter of Ukraine, popular among Dems while contentious among the far-Left
  • Appears to have a nuanced view of the Gaza War, which the far-Left is obviously fanatical about
He dislikes Hasan because he thinks streamers are dumb in general (which makes him smarter than all streamers' fans).

He also retweeted (?) this:

I'm not conflating intelligence with wisdom. Their ability to solve math problems doesn't make them experts in everything.

He did actually discharge a firearm into a federal officer.
.....did he?

A U.S. government court filing on Wednesday raised questions about officials’ initial assertions that a gunman shot a Secret Service officer while allegedly attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

The accused, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, fired a shotgun "in the direction of the stairs leading down to the ballroom" where Trump, other administration officials and members of the press were gathered on Saturday night, according to the pretrial detention motion, which offered the government's most extensive account yet of the incident.

In the motion, prosecutors referred to an officer firing five times, but the document does not mention that officer or any other being shot. A spent cartridge was found in the suspect's shotgun, according to Wednesday's motion.

The document did not accuse Allen of aiming at or striking the Secret Service officer who authorities say was shot in the chest but protected by his body armour.

The man is a perfect product of the system. His opinions and beliefs are bog standard lefty democrat, informed by basic media takes that are given daily by CNN and MSNBC.

He just made the obvious conclusion. If Trump really is a fascist autocrat out to destroy America, why has nobody "done something" yet. This is what should alarm people. The dude is perfectly normal. Which means it's perfectly normal now to want to kill your political opponents.

Did you even read the book or are you just repeating what other people told you it said?
Ship of Fools, man. Nobody listens to the plucky little cabin boy when he calls for a murder spree.

And did this drooling retard ever even write anything book length? Everything I see is a pamphlet with all the good bits just lifted from Ellul and Ted's contribution being nigger tier excuses to serial murder.

I think we need a new topic discussing how to determine which direction someone's wing goes.
I am predicting nobody will be able to create consistent checkbox that can be used to determine subjects wing direction.

It's literally just conservatism vs progressivism. That's why the meme that the conservatives of today are the progressives of yesterday, and that the progressives of today are the conservatives of tomorrow is accurate. It's literally just a question of whether you want to conserve traditional morals and values or "progress" to idealistic fairy tale bullshit.

You can make a distinction between social vs economic conservatism/liberalism but otherwise the definitions are pretty clear.

I guess the fact that they're buying guns now is a point of discussion, but that's arguably a feature of the libertarian vs authoritarian axis rather than the progressive-conservative one, just a phenomenon of the progressives skewing libertarian in reaction to authority being tentatively conservative.

Violent protest is not an exclusively "right wing" behavior, arguably it's more left wing than right wing, as with groups like the Weather Underground, and Antifa. It's baked into their narrative that they're freedom fighters against a fascist empire, a narrative that persists even when they're the authoritarian regime. You only think of "violent extremism" as "right wing" because the left has had near total control of the media for... well, at least as long as I've been alive.

They claim every attempt on Trump so far has been faked and/or was actually MAGA. Not a surprise.
I obviously don't think any of the previous attempts have been fake, but if ever there was gonna be a conspiracy about one this is it. I mean, how in gods name does a guy waltz in past all the security and metal detectors with a gun? How does the guy who clearly has free reign with said gun not hit a single soul? I think, in truth, it's not a conspiracy, it's retardation on both sides. Secret Service is full of overweight foids, nogs, and former football playing wiggers with CTE and the FBI is ran by an inbred beady-eyed jeet. It's not surprising mulatto mutt over here walked right in. And on his end, how did he not hit anyone? Because he's literally too retarded to get himself a sight line and point/pull. It's a comedy of errors so fucking grand it's less damaging to the psyche to pretend it's a conspiracy and that it's actually a 5D chess move by the deepstate than to accept that everyone has just gone full retard.
