✨ Celebrity Madonna - elderly woman mired in existential crisis.

I remember not liking 90% of the slop that came up in the second half of the 2010s. The main issue were those annoying high pitched chimpmunk noises often during the chorus like in Lean On and most Chainsmokers songs.

Well, Lady Gaga started the meme "Reheating your nachos" with the album she released last year. It was Gaga going back to the type of music and vibes that made her famous in the first place, and it was a massive success. It's easily her best album if you ask me. She obliterated her prior discography with Mayhem ... Old Yeller'd it, in my opinion. lol.

Looks like Madonna is trying to reheat her own nachos now. That first single is ass, and keep in mind that my favorite Madonna albums are easily Ray of Light and (the first) Confessions.

🤷‍♀️
Taylor Swift is the first one to have done that, even though she did it based on her circumstances with her previous label refusing to give her the rights to her discography or something. Madonna then reheated her nachos with the Celebration Tour. And in true Gaga fashion she just followed what M did. She even did a free concert in Rio less than a year after Madonna. Gaga is never beating the copycat allegations.

Every time I see this thread pop up, “Hung Up” gets stuck in my head. It is truly a gem of a track and she will never make anything that good (or that relevant) ever again. Her real swan song, if you will.

Could not care less about the copycat stuff. Madonna poached Marilyn Monroe's look, for starters.

Everything is derivative of something else these days, just be entertaining and talented about it.

I only brought up Gaga because it seems that a lot of these "older" stars are trying to get back to what made them famous in the first place, and that Madonna is attempting to do that now by revisiting the time that her last acclaimed album (or "era") happened. Gaga doing it is not the first time someone's done that, and Madonna doing it won't be the last. lol.

It's an Abba song remix, and the original bangs way harder than "Hung Up", imo.

🎶Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight...🎶

I honestly like the Yngwie Malmsteen cover of it, though I know his shredding fucking fury is not for everyone. A lot of metal bands, especially Euro ones, love ABBA.

Anyway, I concur about the new single being uninspired. Madonna's post-Confessions output has been so ass, that I wanted reheated leftovers at this point. But, so far, it does not impress.

Let's talk about Confessions II, shall we? 🪩
Thank you so much for this insight, I really enjoyed reading the breakdown of the tour (and I wouldn't even call myself a Madonna fan).

Madonna is fascinating on so many levels to me since she's older hence one of those artists that "always been around". "Hung up" was rhe first time she really started to look old as I remember it. Not her body or face in any way but when she is dancing next to her younger back up dancers, you could see her not having the same smoothness moving. Probably could have been avoided with a choreography better suited for her but yeah.

It's always fascinating with artists that dare to reinvent themselves, being fearless in their artistic expression. Madonna been the face of that kind of artistry for so long so it's just sad to see that when age came she decided to reinvent herself to look like any mass-produced ethot .

Someone mentioning how she age it's her choice and I can agree that sure, it's up to her but she makes it so boring. There's nothing provocative with getting fingerbanged on stage in the age of onlyfans and Lilly Phillips fucking 100 men in a day.
Her being old and "sexy" isn't a problem (to me at least) it's how that schmexyness is portrayed, stale and done. Same ai filters is giving her the same face as every generic fashion nova "baddie" out there, taking cringe ass, literally, christmas photos with her newest boytoy.

I wanna think there's gotta be more even if I understand there are complex reasons for anyone to do anything. Maybe she feel like she's slipping away but she will always be MADONNA, like, you don't even have to compete with these 20yr Olds.
Obviously she still put effort in to her shows but what we see "everyday", eg social media, is this tired sex-hag. She has infinite money and can do whatever like start a game studio and make "MADONNA THE GAME", do some gigantic ass instalation art Ala the one duck in the Thames or... whatever really.
I think I'm just disappointed that it always come down to being sexy, and a very distinct type of sexy, when older women decides to say FUCK YOU to the establishment. It's such a safe edgy move that does absolutely nothing for me.

Also this picture of her and Sabrina holding hands. Hearthy kek.

Ray of light is her best album. I think it’s an album that encompasses how optimistic people were for the future that was promised. Life felt so simple back then.
*sigh*

Aww thanks! The thing is that she was still recovering from her horse accident when the tour started. Witht that in account, its pretty impressive. Also her Confession Tour dancers were hands down the best ones she ever had, I wishs he kept them for as long as she did with Nikki and Donna (her back up singers from 1987 to the 2000s).

Fame is a tool of the Devil. She's still seeking it despite all the things she earned through the years. Its never enough. And she refuses to realise that its over now. She did everything she ever could do. There's no amount of shock values, surgery, black boyfriends, adopted black kids or new albums that will bring her back to her past glory... evah. AND THATS FINE. But instead she blames misoginy and the fake concept of ageism for her never ending thirst for fame not being filled. She's artistically exhausted, even bankrupt, she's hideous, she has 0 charisma, her online footprint is DISASTROUS. She is the only "legacy" singer complaining about not being seen as a sex symbol and the top star of the moment.

LMAO THIS LOOKS LIKE SABRINA IS HOLDING HANDS WITH NOSFERATU

One last thing, Bring your love is out. Its... alright. It might chart because Sabrina is on it and some radio station decided to remove her from their blacklist.

It was one of the last albums I remember listening to as an album. The individual tracks were so good and the whole thing just made such a gratifying package. William Orbit earned every penny for that production.

"Frozen" and "Nothing Really Matters" are my favorite Madonna songs, hands down.

Ray of Light was Madonna's peak in terms of actual substance, if you ask me. That album showed growth from her as an artist ... Only to see her where she is right now (and where she has been since Ray of Light, let's be real), lol.

As great as Ray of Light is, Music was also a banger from start to finish. No it wasn’t as deep, but it was pretty stellar. It was a huge party album all over Europe in 2000 and 2001, so I might be biased by all the memories.

Oh, Madonna released some bangers post-Ray of Light.

I just think that Ray of Light was undoubtedly her peak as an artist.

In the late 90s she seemed to have figured out how to be a more mature pop artist while hitting sales numbers on par with what she had in her younger days. I agree that she peaked at Ray of Light and her single Beautiful Stranger. It seemed like she had the right formula but she started taking a wrong turn with Music. This is when she started with her fake Bri’ish accent and then her awful American Life album. Let’s face it, her Hung Up single was a huge hit because of what it sampled and nobody else remembers anything from Confessions on a Dance Floor. Then she had another bomb with Hard Candy. Seemed like the message she took from 2001-2008 was to act like she was in her 20s. She’s been experiencing one identity crisis after another now for 25 years.

Madonna did have a more calm and mature image in the mid to late 90s and even 2000s. Main reason was the backlash she got from Erotica, the Sex book and Body of Evidence. She had no choice but to calm down or be seen as a sex pest forever. (Now that I think of it, she wilfully fell into the trap she avoided 30 years ago).

This video sums up well what she did to recover and also a bit of her mentality through out the 90s. For the 2000s, it's because she was married to Guy and he expected her to act as a wife and a mom. (based?) She obliged, and wasnt a complete skank again untill... Rebel Heart, I'd say?

I dont have the source for this, but on a Madonna Discord server I was told she once stated "she was at her lowest mentally during the Erotica era". Probably caused by all the backlash she got, but deviant behaviors are often linked to a poor mental state. (See: Nick Rekieta, The Quarterplanet, Destiny...)

She was fucking Vanilla Ice during that period. That says it all.

Ray of Light for Madonna is like the film Jackie Brown for me. Both seemed to be indicators of people heavily relying on shock actually maturing and embracing getting older. And then Tarantula and Madonna both regressed, though I still enjoyed some of their work until the late 2000's massive dropoff. And they came out a year apart. The 90's truly were a different time.
