Why would this be unthinkable? Goverments, media, and NGOs had to be very proactive in suppressing antisemitism since the end of WW2, they couldn't keep it up forever especially since public trust in all three is at an all time low. October 7th is the Jewish equivalent of George Floyd that forced everyone to adress the issue directly and allowed people to have a reason to go mask off.
