I bought a ryzen 7 5800 XT because they no longer made the X3D version. Now they've announced they're going to re-release the X3D version

I have nothing to add to this thread I just needed somewhere to be angry

It cost as much as the ps5 when it came out and all you're getting is a low end chip with weak arm cores. I'm pretty sure a ps5 level nvidia console would cost as much as the pro
You're getting a portable PS4, as that's what it's performance level is at. Since most games still release games for the PS4 that's still a decent amount of power.

We're basically not going to see end-to-end raytracing-native games until the PS5 is past EOL due to how bad RDNA2 is, so 2030 at the earliest.
Good, it's a pointless technology that kills frame rates, necessitates the removal of physics objects/interactivity with barely any improvement to actual quality.

With a handheld device, you're paying for screen, battery, and ruggedness.

fair enough, but the point being nvidia wont sell their chips for cheap unless unless its basically e waste like the switch 1's

from owning a switch 1 and using a 2 it isn't rugged and the screen isnt great. definitely not the main drivers of the cost

I haven't really followed the console market in ages, so I had blithely assumed that it was a 60-40 split or something like usual. Sony sold about 20 million PS5s last year, while Microsoft sold fewer 2 million Xboxes. How on earth did they ruin that brand?
They lost the last gen when everyone started amassing digital libraries, Game Pass is actually not that compelling an offer for hardcore gamers, there aren't any real exclusives, prices are high, PC continues to be a far better value proposition once you're already locked into spending $800 or more etc.

There were also issues early on where, due to Microsoft demanding parity between Series S and Series X for games released on Xbox, a lot of devs simply skipped the platform because cutting down games to work with only 10GB of unified memory was too much effort for the increasingly small Xbox playerbase.

FWIW - PS5 is also quite a bit behind where it was last gen in terms of adoption. The console playerbase is shrinking in aggregate as like 3/4ths of the Xbox userbase vanished and those people didn't convert entirely to Ponies.

Parity in terms of features, you mean? Or meaning every game has to support the S?

I dropped Playstation when MW2019 came out. For me, the reason was always that the online player base on PC for anything that wasn't CS or LoL was miniscule, and with cross-platform multiplayer, that was no longer a problem. Plus the big studios managed to fuck up nearly every major release that gen. I'd had such a good time with the previous 2 generations, but everything on the PS4 was stale.

Every game has to support the S, although you can cut features here and there. There was drama involving Baldur's Gate III because they had to cut the split-screen multiplayer to get it on the Series S (which meant it was on PS5 exclusively for like half a year) and the other big one I remember was Black Myth Wukong.
