I had an interesting conversation with a psychiatrist of my social acquaintance over the weekend. The topic of Aut came up. Aut's name is recognised in Scottish psych circles due to their conviction for threatening Angela, as "that guy who wanted to stab Angela" (that is a direct quote).

The person I was speaking with told me that psychiatrists are very reluctant to admit people with borderline personality disorder as inpatients. I asked why, since clearly it's pretty debilitating. Their response was that borderline is more or less untreatable unless the patient has strong insight and a powerful motivation to alter their behaviour. They told me that the problem is, once you have determined the ranting, viciously abusive borderline meets the admission criteria, you can then never justify putting them back out of the ward because they never actually improve. The borderlines are the bed blockers of psych wards.

I reflect on this as I read this thread and consider Dr Lenihan's adamant refusal to admit aut, even on a voluntary basis.

This partly informed my advice to Aut not to send a mental ranting letter about conspiracies to Dr lenihan. For better or for worse, i don't believe long term or permanent confinement to a psych ward is in Aut's interest, and I hoped to try and steer them away from a course of conduct likely to land them there.

I owe those on this thread who said I was wasting my time an apology. I try to do people a good turn when I can, but I have failed here.
