EU Two killed and many injured after car driven into crowd in German city of Leipzig

Two people have died and several were injured after a car drove into a crowd in the eastern German city of Leipzig on Monday afternoon, local authorities said.

Mayor Burkhard Jung said the suspected perpetrator was apprehended, adding that authorities were not yet clear on the motivation.

Leipzig fire chief Axel Schuh said 22 people were injured, two seriously.

Approximately 40 firefighters and 40 paramedics are on the scene, along with two helicopters, Schuh said.

Police confirmed that a car had struck several people in the central Grimmaische Straße area before driving off.

The driver was later arrested "and there is currently no further danger emanating from him", according to police.

At about 17:35 (15:35 GMT), Radio Leipzig reported that police said the danger was over and that the area around the square had been cordoned off.

Unverified images posted on social media showed a yellow emergency helicopter near the scene as well as several ambulances.

It is the most effective and easy to acquire tool in their arsenal. As long as the vehicle is moving you can run over potentially hundreds of people (like the truck in Nice, France from over 10 years ago). A direct knife attack (or any other melee weapon) is more risky and guns are hard to come by. A car is simple and easy, and with all the open squares and markets you have very attractive targets.

According to a Brave search to rent a car in Leipzig all you need is a driver's license, some other form of ID like a passport and a credit card for a deposit. Pretty much anybody can do so.

But that's the thing, isn't it? It's cars running over crowds in Germany specifically. In Paris, they used guns, explosives, they murdered over a hundred people in a theater. I remember, I lost sleep over it. The things they did to those people. If it's easy to get in France it would be easy to smuggle across Europe.

These attacks are different. More importantly, they are isolated. Not coordinated it seems, and that is if we're to believe the authorities. There are indeed copycats in other countries but it's Germany that has suffered the most from vehicular attacks at crowds. Something is wrong with this picture.
 
Remember, if you ever have a liberal brag about how Europe doesn't have mass shootings and how effective gun control has been for them, just point out that they have mass car rammings from terrorists instead :)

The rational answer is to address the biggest thing that gives the AfD power, and the response is "Nope, won't work. LookThisOneGuy is licking the window of self-awareness here, talking about how they've reduced the numbers of new immigrants coming in and they're still losing votes. But because these people do not have the ability to think beyond first order effects, they don't understand that it's not just a reduction, it's a total reversal. Repatriation, deportation, removals. Not just a reduction.

Pretty good refutation here too, surprised to see it's both still there and being shared by a European, pointing out that the high-wealth individuals of a country are the only ones who really benefit from a line goes up economy. Not the average worker.

He is of course completely right to point out that humans from completely incompatible cultures will not work as 'replacements', which is openly what they're advocating for now. Anyone who tried to say "Replacement" wasn't a real thing is now pretending they never said that, or that wasn't what they meant.
