console manufacturers enforcing framerate limits below 120 should be punishable by castration in TYOOL 2026
One of the worst thing about the Switch 2's backwards compatibility is that. Fanboys want to compare it to the PS4 and the PS5, but a lot of games had uncapped framerates and ran at AT LEAST 1080p (some got 4k/60 patches for the PS4 Pro), so PS5 bc was cool because you got to play shit like Sekiro at a steady 60 frames in 4k (upscaled, but still...).
Switch 1 games? Astigmatism simulation. 720p at 30 frames. They look good now undocked with the "handheld boost mode" or whatever the fuck it's called, but going from 1440p/4k games to 720p is insane.
To be fair, fuck Sony for capping Bloodborne at 30 frames as well.

An interesting piece of data: despite a strong launch, Switch 2 is going to fall behind the Switch 1 in the US soon:

After the price increase, the Switch 2 will likely remain behind Switch 1 for the rest of its lifespan.

"We're very sorry for the price increase. We're still doing it, though." Just straight up "eh, yeah, go fuck yourselves" right to Nintendo customers' faces.

I do respect the hustle, not gonna lie.

I remember that old rumor stating that Switch 2 was ready to launch in 2024 perhaps earlier but Nintendo banked on mid 2025 hoping for things to calm down….. ofc things didn’t calm the fuck down to this day.
I wonder it there is any truth to this claim

You would think that if they had delayed the launch like that they would have had really strong lineup of games ready. But looking how few games they had ready when Switch 2 launched it almost looks like they had to launch it earlier than they anticipated.

Seems like the smart move would be to grab one before Mango Hitler's tariffs raise the price, so which of the three free games comes most recommended?

I would choose either Pokopia or Donkey Kong depending if you like Pokopia style games. Pokopia is a great game even if you don't care about Pokemon, but it is slow and "casual" so it's not for everyone.

Damn, well I sure am not sorry for not opening up my shekel purse for this glorified DLC console. I say with absolute honesty - there are only 3 things that could MAYBE get me to buy a Switch 1.5 2, those being...

- A Genealogy of the Holy War remake.
- A GOOD Metroid Prime game.
- A Twilight Princess giga remake (the new PC ports being released for the original version kindov make this pointless).

Even the Switch 1 itself was only purchased so I could play Metroid Prime 4 when it eventually came out. I waited 8 years for that game, and in the end I didn't even buy it because it was just so painfully obvious pre-release that it was gonna be a shitshow.

What does the Switch 2 have to offer me besides rent-forever subscription taxes, expensive game "upgrades" (that should have been in the original releases if they were optimized properly), and the same exact shitty interface, sub-par power, and greedy nostalgia bait classics? Dude it's just not worth it to me, especially in this economy. What do we have? Open world Mario Kart? Fuck off. Donkey Kong Odyssey? Miss me with that. Pokemon? Die. Mario Tennis? LOL. Negroid Emblem? Fuck off. Star Fox Lylat Wars #4? NOPE.

It's grim. I don't just talk up emulation to shit on goytendo - though that is a reason - I talk it up because the cost saving "universal deal" that is emulation is simply too tantalizing to pass up. How the fuck could you? You want the best Sonic games? Dreamcast/Genesis. You want the best Mario games? SNES/Wii. You want to play Silent Hill 2? PS2. You want to play Dragon's Crown? PS3. You want Super Monkey Ball? Gamecube. You want Final Fantasy Tactics? PS1. You want to play long lost arcade classics? They are all available to you right now, for free. I want to save money, I want to own and play tons of games that I never have before which have already been vetted by the test of time. No current company could ever offer me such a deal as emulation does for free. And I get to keep it on one XHD, no rent-forever fees, and I can duplicate it endlessly for others. Modern gaming is a scam.

The smart move would be to not buy in at all because $500 for Bananza is highway robbery and there's no other worthwhile games coming to the system soon, possibly ever.

Nothing really, It's more or less the new hot thing for the consoomers to fawn over and more or less going to be a replacement for the Switch 1 when they inevitably stop selling it like Sony did to the PS4 and it's going to end up staying around for 10 years simply because the competitors not named Valve are too busy shooting themselves harder than Nintendo do on a much more regular basis (and third parties are putting way too much faith in it than they should be right now),

I'm probably a bit too soft on them in part because I only ever saw Nintendo as a game making company with hardware being forced onto the games and nothing more and even knowing their many, many decades of really dumb shit doesn't change what they basically are at their core, and most companies have been doing many of the same things Nintendo has done recently on a much longer timescale (See: EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda) and the comparative exaggeration online the Internet seems to have vs other companies just reeks of people trying to put a face on the root problems the industry has that has been going on for years and subsequently ignored until it did become too big to ignore. Maybe I'm just too jaded about the current state of gaming to be mad about what the corporation does this week compared to you, i donno.

I can see why you have that perspective on that, and I do agree, but I feel like there should be some level of gatekeeping to it, like not directly showing off ROM sites (or naming them for the sake of it in a "Lol i can get them from xyz for free" way) unless it's actually relevant to the thread topic, or at the very least explain why it's better or how you can make something better through it, because otherwise it'd fall into the piracy problem where you're getting increasingly dumber retards who hear "Free vidya games and movies and everything", only not to practice any level of caution or safety and end up wondering why thier sources keep getting taken down or in a more recent example with Microsoft and thier amazing job with keeping Forza Horizon 6 from leaking by doing nothing, getting entire game bans for going online with thier not-so-purchased copies and giving these companies more reasons to pester governments into taking measures against it no matter how impotent they are, and besides... we already seen what happened with a lack of gatekeeping with gaming as a hobby, might be a good idea to try with something that would be more volitile.

Nintendo admitted they DID delay the launch because games weren’t ready:

I’m guessing they were referring to Mario Kart World, DK Bananza and Metroid Prime 4.
