Aussie Police foil terrorist plot to bomb airplane. - The cops are going to fuck you up in the Merry Old Land Of Oz

Being arrested for being a terrorist kebab is just part and parcel of living in Sydney, thankfully.

The Religion of Peace hits again!

There's an update on that. Police think that they may have tried and failed to smuggle a device on board a plane previously.

Another lot also appeared in court yesterday over a 2014 plot.

What's worrying is the sheer number of people who've been caught planning terrorist acts here over the last few years.

I have to be at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on Sydney Harbour tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what security is like - the Harbour in general, but especially Circular Quay, is one hell of a target.

I don't know whether our intelligence/counter terrorism agencies are good or our wannabe terrorists are just scrub tier.
Has Australia intrusive superveillance laws like the UK, EU and USA?
Whatever it is, can you send a couple of people with the propper know-how to Germany. :heart-empty:

We're part of Five Eyes, so yes. It's a bit weird, though. Surveillance and security are largely unobtrusive here. A friend of mine has just returned from the US and she was astounded by the level of visible security there. So many of her photos included full-on paramilitary security personnel equipped with assault weapons, and I was shocked by how far away tourists are kept from the White House.

We're also able to offer those who provide information to authorities pretty good protection, which probably makes people a bit more willing to say something about any plans they hear of (police actually knew about the 2015 attack in Parramatta - they just didn't know "who" and didn't expect the threat to come from a 15 year old boy).

I was actually a bit surprised that they've released the names of the guys they arrested the other day. Our counter-terrorism laws allow for that information to be suppressed and it's not unusual for that to happen while an investigation is still in progress. I assume they released it for a reason.
