Not enough to follow simple instructions during post-op care, anyway. Whatever keeps her feet in mid-tier shoes and her talons painted with garish displays of coloration.

Not even enough to even take the time to provide Jahi with healthy diet. The surgeries Jahi got were not necessary, she was told simply helping Jahi lose some wait would have taken care of her sleep apnea (and her diabetes!) but that was to much to ask of mamma Nails so she insisted Jahi have major surgeries instead so she wouldn't have to bother to feed her daughter properly and monitor her daughter's food intake. I mean who the fuck does that shit? What parent would push for risky surgeries on a child rather than just taking the time to help make them healthier?

It isn't surprising when said parent is more occupied with shitting out new kids like they were fast-food franchises rather than maintaining the ones she already has. Harvesting ambergris from the meatbag may have just been less effort than unchecked breeding.

One word: Medicaid. Medicaid covers surgeries at 100% and that makes good money for the doctors and hospital. If a parent with medicaid pushes for it or wants it most doctors won't argue about it. (I don't know how it works in CA, but a lot of doctors work in clinics for medicaid patients so their standard of care is very different than lets say for an educated parent with private insurance.)
I worked at a women's clinic that did free screenings for cervical cancer and other issues through a medicaid program. I was shocked at the number of doctors who tried to convince women from the screening program that they needed a hysterectomy (if they had medicaid coverage) when they absolutely did not and recommending them to young women was insane for the many complications that removal of the uterus can cause unless there is some life threatening condition (such as advanced uterine cancer). But the doctors kept doing it because they made a fat payday for each surgery.

He probably realized that Mama Nails wasn't smart enough and/or willing to provide the supervision and encouragement that Jahi needed to lose weight and avoid surgery or to be compliant in the use of prescribed medical equipment.

I think this is likely. The hospital Jahi went to is a good one, part of the UCSF system. I'm sure the doctor suggested weight loss to help with the apnea, and suggested a cPap machine, which for some reason was not acceptable. . Also, one part of the surgery was for something not fixable with just weight loss-a deviated septum doesn't go away, so Jahi may have needed surgery anyway.
Mama Nails was a lazy loudmouth who used the race card liberally. Since it was likely Jahi would need one surgery, why not get all three and that way she could still feed her kid McDonalds and go out to party instead of cooking. She was probably loud, threatening and obnoxious and not interested in other options, so the surgeon did all three surgeries since at least one was necessary. Mama Nails older instagram posts and her behavior in the ICU show that sort of behavior is not beyond her. She has no respect for any opinion that is not her own, and she cared nothing about the other suffering families in the ICU waiting room.
While a big payday is the goal, somewhere in that head there has to be feelings of guilt for pushing the surgery, which may be another reason she refuses to admit Jahi is dead. And her grandmother too, for suctioning when not supposed to. Their guilt may be why they are doing this, although they would never admit it.

It's a questionable enough choice they apparently didn't just have their case thrown out immediately. However, it's entirely possible it was a reasonable choice and better medically advised than letting her continue to suffer from sleep apnea because her shit parents were going to keep stuffing her like a Thanksgiving turkey.

The doctor might have already attempted to get the child to lose weight. The surgery might have be for harm reduction after a certain point.

The difference between Mama Nails and the guy who fucked a corpse is that at least the guy supposedly had feelings for the dead lady and did what he did out of those feelings. Mama Nails just wants a fat paycheck to come from her fat dead daughter.
People like her are why welfare and government assist systems need to be restructured. There needs to be some system of accountability, requiring recipients to submit physical documents proving that the welfare is not being spent on frivolous items or things that the money is not supposed to be spent on (Michael Kors instead of medical care for instance).

Jahi was the one who did most of the care for her younger sister Jordyn. Her reward for this was being allowed to go the a neighborhood store and buy snicker doodle cookies.
The "chump change" uncle Omari competes in bodybuilding contests several times a year, and is also a part-time actor. He's used this situation to try and get acting jobs, pick up ladies, and claims he donates award money to Jahis' care.
If anyone could've helped Jahi with a proper diet and exercise routine, it would be him. I guess it was too much work for him.
What gets me the most is that her daughter on the other side of the country CHOKED a girl at school, and Mama Nails is only concerned about Jahi. If she's really a woman of God, she should be teaching her daughter who's alive Christian values, and be there with her while she grows up.

Ha, that would take actual effort and work with no possible pay day. Much easier to "mother" an inert lump of flesh hooked to machines. Jahi doesn't get in the way with her partying with Newark ghetto trash and she can use her corpse to hustle donations that feed her third tier designer shoe habit and acrylic nail fetish. Mamma Nails and her creepy boyfriend think of Jahi's body as a magic money tree, it may be small now but if they keep watering it maybe one day it will produce the jackpot they've pinned all their hopes on.
It's also probably for the best that mamma nails stays far away from her living children, no good can come from her influence in their lives.

There is a super strong religious streak in black America (and even in Africa from what I read). They are okay with fake Christians, even NOI, the only thing unforgivable is being an atheist.
I have a black friend who is an atheist, his family would have reacted better to him taking a shit on the table during Christmas dinner while murdering the family dog than hearing he didn't believe in god.
