It's easy to imagine why. Almost everything they draw strength and inspiration from is external they don't like themselves so much they want to be animals so of course they can only find strength and confidence in weaponry. I wouldn't be shocked if they believe everything is about the sword someone is holding and nothing to do with the person holding it.
