Lena Dunham - Fat, Child Molesting Attention Whore and Her Trainwreck of a Family

Here is a question not considered so far -- What is Lena Dunham really famous for?

Yes I know she's an actress, but I have never seen her perform except for that campaign ad she did for Obama, and that only because a right wing site linked to it on YouTube.

Perhaps my experience is not typical, but I'm guessing that she is as famous as she is from right wingers (and some others) reacting to her political pronouncements.

That is more famous for being a troll than all her "real" work.

Nothing, really.

She's just been pushed by the progressive left and Hollywood elites for some reason, and artificially propped up as some role model or "voice of a generation" for millenials. This, of course, didn't at all work because of who she is. She's the personification of what middle America (and the rest of America, really) genuinely hate about Hollywood and its "values." She's an unironic degenerate (molesting her sister) has zero class and does weird or revolting things (photoshoots on toilets, won't keep her fucking clothes on despite her awful hirsute body), and hates America and bashes it at every turn. All in all, she's a fat ugly cow who nobody can look at even once and take seriously.

Her main claim to fame is a truly wretched show called Girls which is one of those shows you hear TV critics gush over but never bother watching (and don't ever watch it because it's awful). The only reason it survived as long as it did is because it's on HBO where it's much easier for a show to survive than on regular TV because if enough people cite it as a reason they subscribe to HBO that'll keep it on the air even if not many people are actually watching (see Arli$$ for another example of this).

Now Girls is over she can focus all her efforts on making a full-time ass out of herself.

I know she played a role in the Innkeepers in which she plays an obnoxious, self -absorbed barista who talked about her own problems despite that this was haunted hotel movie . Her scene was useless. It served no purpose of the plot. Still she got top billing for one scene.

Sounds like you might've accidentally just watched a Lena Dunham interview, friend

This isn't the Salt Mine. "Why is Lena Dunham famous?" is a stupid question designed solely to pretend like she doesn't do anything but SJW, which is untrue and makes it all the more obvious that the objection to her is political. She is famous because she had a show on HBO that ran for five seasons and was popular. I didn't like the show. I don't care about Lena Dunham. But this isn't the "let's pretend Lena Dunham is irrelevant because we don't like her" thread.

I literally never heard of her until I read a right wing rant against her in 2012.

Because her show didn't start until halfway through that year. She made indie films before that. Hardly anyone watched them. Then she got a show on HBO. This was five years ago. You not knowing who she was before she did the thing for which she is well-known is not evidence that Lena Dunham is famous for no reason.

It is however a symbiotic relationship.

She continues to get publicity, and the right wingers get something to write about on slow days.

She's famous because because media people love her. The amount of coverage you get isn't really about how popular you are, but who you're popular with and Dunham has been a media darling all her life, starting as a loved precocious teenager. The New York Times sent a reporter to dinner party she hosted when she was 16 and that wasn't even the begging as she had been featured previously in the NYT and Vogue, starting at age 11:

"There's no Prada allowed in one downtown household. Laurie Simmons and Carroll Dunham's eleven-year-old daughter, Lena, has a street edge that could leave even Miss Schnabel feeling momentarily inadequate. 'I tried to model this after Helmut Lang,' says Lena, showing off a shift she sewed herself. Her fashion pronouncements are something you'd expect from a woman (at least) three times her age: 'I tend not to go for trends. You can only wear them for two weeks . . . . I really like Jil Sander, but it's so expensive.... I find Calvin Klein really hard to respect because he's everywhere. I view him as a clothesmonger . . . . Manolo is really classy.' Then she returns to preteen reality—'But five dollars a week [i.e., her allowance] isn't really enough. I'm just looking.'

I don't really get why they're so in love with her now that she's no longer a precocious teen and has grown into a disgusting creature of little talent, I guess they can't just walk away from their friend. In the end Dunham is someone who was always going to be successful thanks to being well-connected and that makes her even more obnoxiously disconnected from reality (not that she ever had much connection as the offspring of wealthy deranged New York artists).

Reads like something found in the society pages.
