I've said that before as well.
I think the best example of him being a contrarian for the sake of it are these games: he had previously (same year no less!) bitched that IGN had given Brink a "scathing" review...of 6.0
So he bitches about the media giving DNF mixed to negative reviews. Rather than address it in a more objective way he pretty much just outright insults of all them as if absolutely everyone is shitting on the game (reminder that DNF did get some decent reviews and there are people like myself who enjoy for what it is even if it's flawed) and gives it...a 6.5
So if according to DSP, a 6.0 is a scathing review, does that mean DNF is shit according to him?

As for RE6, check this shit out:

So, at the end of Ada's playthrough, he takes the time to not only insult RE6's critics but in particular, the old school RE fanbase (not RE4, I'm talking RE0-3 and CV) for not liking RE6. Yet at the end of his RE2 playthrough, he said RE6 sucked...only for then to go right back to liking RE6 during the RE5 Remastered playthrough.

I'm kinda convinced he doesn't really care about either game, he may have liked them but it sounds more like he was being a contrarian just for the sake of it (probably he wants notoriety and thus views). RE6 in particular is a rare example where he went from "loving" it to bitching about it and then going right back to loving it. It's almost like he bitched about RE6 during the RE2 playthrough because the old school fanbase didn't like it and thus wanted to appeal to them, not because he didn't like it.

This is one pic per quarter using the WIPs he uploaded to YouTube from 2014 to July. Tried to find him right at the start, not making a face, mouth closed, eyes open, and looking at the camera. Was actually kind of hard. He seems to only close his mouth when he's either not looking at the camera or also opening his mouth.

TIHYDPs are illegal in his eyes? He's only in favor of changing the kahpyright system on YouTube when it suits him?

It's not illegal if it's on KOGaming and makes money off of it...
...but he said he has like two KOCC submission videos (or however he calls it) that he still hasn't released yet when it'd take like two minutes of work, plus re-rendering which he could do overnight.

KOGaming is dead, until it isn't. This is not the first time he washed his hands of everything to focus on his "bread and butter" DspGaming. Whatever his goal was for the KOCC it must have been a bust. I guess he expected if a video had 50,000 views on some nobody detractors channel he would get even more because he is a "super successful" Youtuber. Of course when he goes all in on the rebirth of KOGaming he will be confused nobody wants to support a channel they know he will pull the plug on at any time for any reason.

Unless he cannot come up with another clickbait title to gain some views (like he did for Homefront: The Revolution), he won't resurrect KOGaming. He has so high expectations for view numbers when he has to put effort in editing and recording in a video that it is really not worth his effort. Guess making a video game review channel when you are both lazy and uncreative wasn't the smartest idea, but what do detractors know.

His recent stream even had a point where he was saying how much free time he would have.

Based on what I've seen on DSP it seems he has no projects or anything to try and 'better himself' in any way, shape or form. He's not studying anything, he's not learning anything, he's not trying anything new. He just wakes up and gets more gout and becomes fatter with each passing day. It's kind of surprising because most adults at least have something on the side to do.

I wonder what age he'll wake up at and look at the past decade of his life...

Phil is making a lot more money on Twitch than he deserves - mostly thanks to his small loyal cult - but he still has no clue about the entertainment he should be making.

A good veteran streamer can get 2000 viewers by playing anything, because their personality is the entertainment. Phil says that the game is the focus, and in his case I suppose he's not wrong - Phil's total lack of charisma or charm as an entertainer means that he must rely on the game's brief freshness.

But he never cared that Youtube and Twitch are different platforms. Phil simply records his Youtube content "live" on Twitch to get two sets of income from one session of work. Some games are better as Youtube content, and some games are better for streaming. Phil is too lazy to see a difference. He probably hasn't even noticed that the big money on Twitch comes from co-operative multiplayer games -- which would require a network of friends to play with.
