I could talk on length about my moniker's namesake, but instead I'll bring up this amazing assortment.

For all I know they could still be making these and I'm just not looking hard enough, but regardless, whoever had the idea of adding oatmeal squares to Chex Mix deserves a raise.
I still see that in stores, it's just under a different name.

When a former upscale hotel is converted into a retirement home or college dormitory, you know a city is going to hell.
Seems like it, I'm only glad my downtown still has a few hotels including a baseball stadium and an hockey arena. Some nice shops/restaurants as well, so it hasn't been too bad here, but fat chance on something like a IKEA or maybe an IMAX theater anytime soon.

Well I live in South Florida, so you would think there's some convenience, but we have poor public transportation, and walking anywhere warrants having a heat stroke or being hit by a car.
I miss getting bus transfers with my city's buses, they discontinued a reason I had to go somewhere that required more than a single bus, but I guess they are hurting these days.

Reminded of people not being able to find FunYuns or Munchos these days but I still see them locally, so it could be a regional thing for some brands to exist or sold.

I could never take a bus. We were supposed to see an extension of our metro El rail from a penny tax voted for years ago, but the money mysteriously disappeared, likely pocketed by every corrupt career politician still in power.

Anyway, does anybody remember from around the turn of the millennium these rotary battery-operated Mars candy dispensers? I had a Skittles and M&M'S one, but got thrown away most likely because it took too much time to find a Phillips screwdriver to replace the battery.

Too bad I don't think we had anything close to this here in the states. British confectionary giants like Rowntree or Cadbury barely made ground here unless through licensing brands to domestic outfits like Hershey's or try entering the US via a subsidiary. Cadbury did that when they bought out Peter Paul Candy Co. in the late 70's but ended up selling it to Hershey's anyway (and the right to manufacture their "Dairy tard cum" line and distribute the Creme Eggs as wel).

Maybe something like a Sky Bar? Although those are hard to find now. Plus they don't come in fruit flavor. Damn, I really want a Sky Bar now.

I miss Pepsi Kona. It was not around long and was only in a few test markets from what I read. But it was coffee flavored Pepsi. I spend a whole summer guzzling it like there was no tomorrow. Then it was gone.:'(

I've heard that it's still around in some parts of South East Asia. I could just add coffee syrup to Pepsi. But it's not the same.

Word filter lolz ahead.

Then there was Mighty Milk. It was a fortified milk that tasted kind of nutty and malted. When Abbott's dairy was sold their products were discontinued. These days you can't really find anything similar. Do they still make PDQ malted milk mix? I can't remember if that had sugar though. I think it did. They were still selling it in the 90s. Normally I can't drink straight cow milk. But I'd give something like that a try.

I remember there being many different flavors of the Andy Capp Fries (Salsa Fries, BBQ White Cheddar Fries, BBQ Fries, Zesty Ranch, Hot Chili Cheese Steak Fries, etc.), but now all I can find are the classic Hot Fries and the Cheddar Fries. Not that I'm complaining, it's just...not so diverse anymore. :(
Apparently ConAgra hates us. I still find those two plus BBQ flavor at my stores.

Still, it's fascinating they could keep that around at all, my local paper hasn't carried Andy Capp in probably over a decade now.

Some while ago I came across finding a scan of an animation cel to a commercial made in the70's, though sadly it's not up on YouTube for us to view.

Although interestingly there's been a few ads featuring the guy that were animated and seen elsewhere in the world for all sorts of things from snacks to alcohol!

Feel like this is borderline to a :powerlevel: given it probably marks me as the oldest person on KF. But Jesus were these amazing. I've literally never tasted anything quite like them. I think they did something to the corn meal that made it less lumpy, dunno, but somehow these were absolutely unique. They were like breakfast crack.

If I'm ever in possession of a real kitchen again I'll have to try this recipe, but I have no doubt I'll be disappointed. Some things simply cannot be duplicated.

Wished I ate at a HoJo.

Oddly, I don't ever remember eating them at a Howard Johnsons. Always got them at the supermarket.
I found out where the HoJo's in my town where, today their other restaurants using the same buildings. They don't have that silly little pylon on top though.

Amazing the hotel part is still around, but I'm sure the decades being apart from the restaurant namesake have taken their toll.

Remember that weird blank spot when Peanut butter captain crunch just went missing in the mid 2000s' and now it's suddenly back? Just shittier flavor? I loved it as a kid, but now it tastes like shit-- Maybe it's just nostalgia blinding me, however. Oddly enough, Reese's peanut butter cup cereal is still around and it tastes the same. Not sure.

Peanut Butter Crunch is so bad now. I used to mix it with Cocoa Puffs before the Reese's cereal happened and that shit was so good.

Cadbury Creme Egg Thickshakes. Maccas had this thing with these things last easter, they aren't assured to come back next year.
Mint Jelly Leaves. They have been cast off the rotation, they rarely stock them any more and usually for Christmas.
Blueberry Cordial. They got rid of it because it looked too much like cleaning supplies, apparently.

Also for some reason, the councils are getting rid of the mulberry bushes from the local parks so they're now being 'discontinued'.

Reminds me of when Cadbury put out this as an excuse to have Creme Eggs out of the holiday.

Here in the US, we had similar out-of-season Creme Egg appearances including "Screme Eggs" during Halloween and once around Christmas as "Ornamental Creme Eggs", though they haven't done the Xmas one for years but they still do the Screme Eggs.

That sucks when nature gets thrown aside like that. There used to be a street in town lined with trees on the boulevard for decades until they cut them all down and uprooted them. Now the street has lost its character I feel. Hard to replace something like that.
