No, the other half of them run falafel stands.I bet you think all Muslims are terrorists too.

Charles Manson. They may be autistic but at least they don't rape their women, lock them up and run over innocent people like the religion of peace.
It's true, but what Manson and his minions did are very little compared to Muslims.Charles Manson.

Hey ya'll, just checking in with some more advice on how to be a Doctor Who Wizard. I can't stand the thought of this thread dying permanently. I also can't stand the thought of you all not knowing that Pop Culture Pagans post that meme unironically, sometimes, as if it's not a joke.

I can't fucking even these days. /SPOILER]
"I had trouble feeling a personal connection with the idea of the traditional four elements, so I visualized them as the four members of Metallica and that solved my problem."
There has been some long-running controversy within the Pagan and magick community against pop culture magick and pop culture paganism, with many traditional practitioners arguing that fictional characters can never be as "real" as the conventional deities or nature, given that they are overtly man-made.
Even Carlin is hesitant to regard pop culture figures such as the Tenth Doctor ofDoctor Who (who she considers her spirit guide) as gods in the same sense as Zeus, Kali, or Lilith.
"The way I see it, pop culture figures are essentially thoughtforms on the astral plane. The more energy we in the mundane world pour into them, the bigger and stronger they get in the astral," she says. "The entities that I call deities are generally very, very old and very, very strong—to the point that they can function entirely independently of the energies fed to them from people. I see pop culture figures as being lesser than deity in that they are still almost entirely dependent on the incoming energies from people for their existence. As such, while I might respect and even venerate a pop culture figure, I wouldn't worship it. To me worship requires a sense of subordination to the thing being worshiped that I just don't feel for pop culture figures."
Pop culture magick and paganism uses characters, setting, and imagery from books, movies, television, cartoons, comics, and other creative media as a basis for worship or witchcraft. For example, practitioners may build tarot decks based on the fictional surrealist newscast Welcome to Night Vale, explore the healing and magickal properties of the gems that make up the characters of the Cartoon Network hit Steven Universe, build shrines in honour of the trolls from the sprawling cult webcomic favourite Homestuck (whose video-game-as-creation-myth base seems tailor-made for pop culture magick), build resources for a faith based on the Elder Scrolls universe of Skyrim, commemorate holy days in Harry Potter's history, or connect with other practitioners in other fandoms.
Because it's based in fandoms, which also change withing a year. Pop culture paganism has very little staying power except for those with autism-level fixation on a given series. What is it about Neo-Paganism that attracts so many weirdos and autists?
It's sad how things just happen like this.I cannot fathom the levels of autism required to actually believe in Pop Culture Paganism. I mean, it's one thing to worship figures like Zeus, Odin, Amaterasu, Perun, Moloch, Osiris, or The Morrigan, it's another to worship blatantly obvious fictional characters from the 20th and 21st Centuries like Spider-Man and Sailor Moon.
And speaking of Sailor Moon, I know of a Sailor Moon religion online called Serenitism. I cannot tell if it was originally a parody or possibly the earliest example of Pop Culture Paganism. It's a religion based around Sailor Moon that started in the late 90's/early 2000's and has quite the following on Tumblr and its Pop Culture Paganism communities.
This is the oldest non-Tumblr link I could find. The original website was a webs.com site that is long gone. I used to read that one for laughs back in the day. Never thought shit like it would be taken seriously though.

Personally, I miss the old style of Paganism. The creepy Wicker Man/Celtic Druid shit that scared the fuck out of normies and got crusades called on your ass if you practiced it (just ask the Baltic pagans). I liked Paganism better when it was Christopher Lee sacrificing virgins in the name of some forgotten eldritch deity just to make the crops grow while creepy folk music like this was playing.
I blame Wicca, personally. The advent of Wicca in the 1950's and 1960's made Paganism seem cute and harmless and let in all the fluffy bunny hippie chicks. Now it's all either reefer-smoking Wiccan hippie chicks, edgelord Neo-Nazi Varg Vikernes wannabes who dress like they're going to a Skyrim LARP, or this Pop Culture Paganism Tumblrina shit.
Seriously though, Wicker Man jokes aside, Pop Culture Paganism is a bunch of autistic bullshit. At least the Wiccans have a base code of conduct that unites them (the Rede).
What is it about Neo-Paganism that attracts so many weirdos and autists? Not to say that you don't find lolcows in Christianity or other mainstream religions, because you do, but there seems to be a greater volume of spergs and lolcows in Neo-Paganism.
Thank you!Because it's based in fandoms, which also change withing a year. Pop culture paganism has very little staying power except for those with autism-level fixation on a given series.
Sailor Moon actually makes more sense than some shows, seeing as you could view the scouts as being "goddesses", but at the end of the day it's really just built around peoples' desire to fit into a group while also finding meaning in something. Religions used to be based around the words of specific men; now their religious texts are from TV shows and movies.
In other words, people are stupid.
