Tumblr's version of JJBA is a fucking goldmine.

The thing is, this one is rendered quite nicely, colors are cute, you can see lots of care put into it and the artist has a potential imo - but it all goes to waste when you remember the topic of this work. :heart-empty:

Funnily enough, when it comes to sexism and robots it's the other way around. If we speak of humanoid robots that is.

If you look at video games and movies there's this association that if the robot is friendly, gentle, caring and has developed/is developing a human side, then it's often created in an image of a beautiful woman. Whereas when a robot is a threat, shows lack of human emotions and his one of his desire is to enslave/obliterate the human kind - it's shown as muscular, tall and manly. One can wonder, why is that? (I'm not saying it's always the case)

What I find kind of funny about that is how prominently this visual motif is represented in one of Tumblr's favorite intellectual properties- Undertale.

There's a robot character that antagonizes the player for most of the third world. His design is pretty square and generic until he transforms into his overtly feminine, David-Bowie-like "pop star" form, whereupon he becomes vulnerable to attack and is able to be befriended by the player.

Yet I don't see Tumblr bitching about the implications of his feminine form being "weak"; all they've done is slobber over the possibility of his story being a "metaphor for transness". God, Tumblr is so fickle when it comes to bawwwing about gender roles.

Isn't Mettaton an offensive gay-guy stereotype? - Oh right, Tumblr doesn't like actual gay guys, only gay gals. Oops.

You're honestly the first person I've seen voice concerns about Mettaton being an "offensive gay stereotype". Thing is, in order for a character to be a gay stereotype, they kind of have to be demonstrably gay, not just effeminate. The only character he flirts with is the protagonist, whose gender is up to the interpretation of the player.

Like DecepticonLeader said, his mannerisms and design are meant to be an homage to glam rock.

That said, I feel like I've lead the conversation kind of off topic. Bottom line, the diatribe some Tumblr user wrote about robots and gender roles is hypocritical.

This artist has been already featured in this thread, her DeviantArt mainly; (in)famous for her same-facey and expressionless lesbian characters and overuse of pastel colors.
I used to follow her because her art was still fresh to me and, objectively, is quite cute. But once you see the same face, color palette and composition for the 100th time you don't really have a reason to stay because personality-wise - she's "tumblr" kind of special.
Oh yeah, and I believe she's friends with Tearzah, another special "magical girl" *~. Also featured on this thread (and a bit of a lolcow as well. Then again, lots of these "cute soft pastel sapphic wlw uwu" artists are lolcows).

Btw, naming a darker-skinned character Coco? lol

Ah I understand. I usually don't really pay attention to characters much in that sense, I was just repeating what someone told me once, so I apologize.

I think the palette and stuff is pretty cutesy, but the same-face, vitiligo, special snowflake-ness really drives it off. Also what's up with tumblr and puffy lips? Most SJW art I've seen have puffy lips.

Because you literally need to draw 3 lines and you have lips - it's really just that: laziness, "tumblr" artists are lazy as fuck (also SJWs love that kids' show "Steven's Universe" and you can notice those exact lips on most characters, so there's that). Plus, puffy lips are used to make character seem more cute/seductive - kind of like dropping eyelids mentioned a couple of pages earlier.
Does it work? In most cases, no, because the lack of effort is so obvious.

And yeah, picture in itself is cute but when every drawing looks like that (and I'm talking of many artists, sometimes you can't tell a difference between who drew what), you can get sick of it after a while. But whatever, just an opinion of mine.

EDIT: Some tumblr lips. Took me less than a minute.

It's because Tumblr's sacred goat Steven Universe does the puffy lips all the time. I guess they do it because it makes your character looks "POC".

That's still the funniest shit to me (her name) I'm surprised that none of her fans have called her out. Actually I'm still surprised she has fans because I feel like her art is at a constant stagnation.
